Full Job Description

We have a rare opportunity to join our team in the South and South East, as presenter/producer of a brand new programme for Friday nights, with a particular focus on our African and Caribbean communities across the region.

The successful candidate will join our talented team of presenter/producers who are at the heart of our relationship with our local audiences. We're looking for a passionate broadcaster and brilliant storyteller who can inspire and engage our audience. You will be part of the on-air team helping to make BBC Local famous for its outstanding programming and its deep connection with the people we serve.

Creativity is really important in this role. You will have the ability to tell stories in a creative and dynamic way. You will also recognise how we can make our great content travel further, by sharing our stories on our digital platforms, regional TV programmes and across the wider BBC.,

  • As a BBC Local presenter/producer, you will be a crucial part of the teams producing content of the highest quality, in tune with audience expectations.

  • As well as nurturing our existing audience, you will be key in attracting new listeners by reflecting the true diversity within our communities.

  • You will use your natural curiosity to source original stories and contributors to bring local stories to life.

  • You will research, script and present content in an engaging and impartial way, always following the BBC's Editorial Guidelines.

  • Are you the right candidate?

  • It is important that our presenter/producers have the right skills and experience, but just as important is the right attitude: a willingness to change and adapt; endless curiosity and demonstrable the ability to connect with people quickly.

  • Your delivery style will be inclusive and engaging while having the capacity to recognise and quickly adapt to changing tones and situations. Experience of planning and delivering to deadlines will be key.

  • We are looking for real team players as well as outstanding broadcasters - individuals who harness their skills and experience to support, mentor and develop newer members of the team. As well as being a strong member of your team, you will be confident in establishing relationships across BBC Local and the wider organisation.

  • The successful candidate could be based at any one of the radio stations that works best for them, in either Guildford, Brighton, Tunbridge Wells, Reading, Oxford, Southampton or Dorchester.

  • About the BBC

The BBC is committed to redeploying employees seeking suitable alternative employment within the BBC for different reasons and they will be given priority consideration ahead of other applicants. Priority consideration means for those employees seeking redeployment their application will be considered alongside anyone else at risk of redundancy, prior to any individuals being considered who are not at risk.

We don't focus simply on what we do - we also care how we do it. Our values and the way we behave are important to us. Please make sure you've read about our values and behaviours here.

Diversity matters at the BBC. We have a working environment where we value and respect every individual's unique contribution, enabling all of our employees to thrive and achieve their full potential.

We want to attract the broadest range of talented people to be part of the BBC - whether that's to contribute to our programming or our wide range of non-production roles. The more diverse our workforce, the better able we are to respond to and reflect our audiences in all their diversity.

We are committed to equality of opportunity and welcome applications from individuals, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, socio-economic background, religion and/or belief. We will consider flexible working requests for all roles, unless operational requirements prevent otherwise.

We're happy to discuss flexible working. Please indicate your choice under the flexible working question in the application. There is no obligation to raise this at the application stage but if you wish to do so, you are welcome to. Flexible working will be part of the discussion at offer stage.

  • Excellent career progression - the BBC offers great opportunities for employees to seek new challenges and work in different areas of the organisation.

  • Unrivalled training and development opportunities - our in-house Academy hosts a wide range of internal and external courses and certification.

  • Benefits - We offer a negotiable salary package, a flexible 35-hour working week for work-life balance and 25 days annual leave with the option to buy an extra 5 days, a defined pension scheme and discounted dental, health care, gym and much more.
