QUANTITY SURVEYOR

Who we are: - based in Hingham, A C Bacon Engineering Ltd are a leading Norfolk based manufacturer specialising in steel structures and steel frames for agricultural, commercial, and industrial buildings, from design through to manufacture, delivery, and installation. As part of our dedication and commitment to our customers we are also able to supply and install wall and roof cladding, roller shutter doors, personnel doors, metal decking, PCC planks and stairs, PCC grain walling and concrete pad foundations. A C Bacon Engineering Ltd has extensive in-house production facilities at its headquarters in Hingham, to provide the highest quality product and experience for its customers. A C Bacon Engineering Ltd are also proud holders of the Royal Warrant of Appointment as a tradesman to The Queen for the manufacture of steel-framed buildings.

The role: we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team. As a Quantity Surveyor you will play a pivotal role in the day-to-day running of the commercial department, ensuring that it runs smoothly with deadlines met in line with contractual obligations. You will have a keen eye for detail, be able to work under pressure, and have an analytical and methodical mindset to ensure the accuracy of all commercial documentation both internally and upstream to our clients.

The Responsibilities of the role: the main responsibilities of the role will include, but not necessarily be limited to: -

Meticulous and timely review of Sub-Contract Orders, including the negotiation of agreeable terms and conditions.

Meticulous review and documenting of Collateral Warranties, Parent Company Guarantee’s and Performance Bonds etc. again including the negotiation of agreeable terms and conditions.

Preparation and submission of monthly interim applications for payment, including all supporting documentation to ensure the timely receipt of monies.

Prepare and submit ‘re-measurements’ of contracts (where appropriate) in line with standard methods of measurement and priced B of Q’s.

Timely and accurate identification/notification of variations to contract, in line with the relevant contract conditions i.e Early Warning and Compensation Event notifications.

Evaluation of all variations to contract with highly detailed substantiations.

Identify, notify, and substantiate any EOT and/or Loss of Production claim(s).

Preparation and submission of detailed final accounts in line with the provisions of the relevant sub-contracts.

Successful negotiation of both interim applications for payment and final account submissions.

Review and authorise sub-contractor Invoices / applications for payment, including the issue of appropriate and timely payment and pay less notifications.

Attend site meetings as, and when, required.

Assist and support senior management with the settlement of any contractual disputes.

Provide all financial reporting, including CVR’s, to senior management as requested / required.

Assist with the development and mentoring of trainee Quantity Surveyors and other staff members.

What you will need: the successful candidate will have previous experience and a proven track record within the structural steelwork industry, along with excellent communication, negotiation, oral and report writing skills. The ability to work as part of a team, under pressure, and to strict deadlines, have high attention to detail, and a meticulous and dedicated approach to their work is vital. An in-depth knowledge of JCT, NEC, and bespoke forms of Sub-Contract is also desirable.
