Full Job Description

This role will be based at, and responsible for, the Winterbourne, Bristol site, where Key manufacturing processes include sophisticated extrusion, coating, printing, lamination and specialist conversion technologies. Well invested with significant growth plans, 90% of their product is supplied into medical markets, 5% pharmaceutical and 5% food. The Winterbourne site has a turnover of €70m p.a., with 190 employees at site. The site is ISO9001, IS914001, BRC and FSC accredited.

Job Purpose

  • To ensure that all manufactured products meet or exceed customer expectations and AFEMEA Quality requirements.

  • To assume a leadership role in reinforcing and adhering to established company quality standards and specifications, validating quality throughout the production process.

  • To manage and direct the quality department in compliance with relevant regulations, customer expectations and Amcor standards., This is a key position within the company, duties and responsibilities will include the following:

  • To establish quality systems and standards, which enable achievement of regulatory compliance and good manufacturing practices and anticipate the changing needs of customers, regulatory bodies, and the business

  • To supervise activities relating to inspection, laboratory testing, auditing, and process control within a large sized plant with high complexity.

  • To be responsible for implementing, maintaining and modifying the plant's quality management system to improve business operating systems and to meet the requirements of customers and best practice audits.

  • To oversee validations of new product, qualifications on plant equipment, inspection, laboratory testing, statistical process control and corrective action with a mindset of continuous improvement.

  • To design, implement and direct the Quality Assurance program for the plant, including but not limited to plant management responsibilities, and document and data control, expert at the plant level on product characteristics and performance

  • To represent the Customer on Quality and product performance matters at the plant level; advocates for Amcor in representing Amcor products and systems to local customers

  • To oversee and participate, as required, in the event of complaints, ensuring internal product performance investigation and implementation of corrective and preventative actions. Drive resolution to conclusion and systematically improve product and system quality

  • To play a key role in reducing the cost of quality and improving overall site quality performance.

  • To oversee and participate as required in customer audits

  • To evaluate and negotiate agreements that reflect business technical/quality capability and requirements with both suppliers and customers

  • To guide departments/personnel in understanding of quality requirements specific to their role through audit programmes, incident investigation and training activities

  • To coordinate objectives with production procedures in cooperation with other plants to maximize product reliability and minimize costs

  • To inspect work-in-process material, rework materials and finished goods; assures the required level of quality through visual inspection, statistical sampling and laboratory testing of materials; ascertains the reasons for nonconforming materials

  • To establish, monitor, and maintain statistical process control (SPC) programs; advise and instruct local managers in utilization of SPC data

  • To provide consistent ongoing analysis of process capability (CPK) statistics. Determine, recommend, and assist in continuous improvement programs to meet plant/business unit quality objective and advise the Quality & Technical Manager of appropriate action plans. Suggest improvements in procedures and techniques to improve product and customer acceptance

  • To manage team of direct reports and to be responsible for employee selection, development, mentoring and performance management

    Ideally degree qualified, the successful candidate must be a proven Quality Manager, with a good understanding of Packaging/Manufacturing. Ideally candidates will have experience gained in a regulated environment such as Plastics, Medical Device, Medical manufacturing. Comprehensive understanding of quality management systems, food safety programs, HACCP, and GMP standards is required. Experience in change management, stakeholder management, and influencing people is preferrable.
