Full Job Description

We're looking for Quality Engineers and Quality Control Coordinators to join our inspection team.

The Quality Engineer or Quality Control Coordinator is the main point of contact for inspection services and for ensuring that the necessary Quality Control (QC) requirements are identified and implemented throughout the lifecycle of a project or procurement. They lead and co-ordinate all inspection resources which are deployed to ensure that an effective inspection service is delivered in line with the agreed inspection strategy, while providing assurance that the quality of the delivery of products and services satisfy stakeholder requirements and meets customer specifications.

Responsibilities include:

  • Development of a robust project QC strategy.

  • Act as the main point of contact for inspection services and to provide the interface between customers and suppliers.

  • Providing advice and appropriate technical support to customers and suppliers on QC and Inspection issues.

  • Carry out a full and comprehensive Contract Review based upon applicable drawings, specifications and supplier performance to establish appropriate QC oversight arrangements

  • Ensuring that Sellafield Ltd (SL) quality requirements, standards & expectations as well project/contract specific QC requirements are clearly communicated to suppliers

  • Providing/coordinating inspection oversight and advice throughout the project/contract lifecycle

  • Assessing Inspection Reports, investigating QC related concerns and events, and identifying appropriate corrective/preventive action.

  • Monitoring and trending the quality of delivery performance in their area of responsibility using performance indicators.

  • Assessing the ability of suppliers to meet SL specified requirements and participating in Supplier Evaluation Boards and Supply Chain Audits as required.

  • Achieving demonstrable levels of technical competence in line with the competency requirements for the role, and for maintaining skill levels through continued professional development and training.

  • Acting as a mentor to new & existing inspectors., An attractive defined contribution pension scheme - the company will match up to 13.5% for a 7% employee contribution!

  • You will be eligible to take part in an Annual Incentive Scheme, which provides a bonus payment up to 10% base salary per annum based on achievement of Company targets and personal performance rating as discussed with line management.

  • Be able to interact with stakeholders to ensure that appropriate arrangements are established and deployed throughout the product or project lifecycle.

  • Proven track record with significant experience in an inspection role

  • Possess good communication (both verbal and written) and IT skills,

  • Be able to produce clear and concise reports.


  • Desirable Skills:
    The desirable skills vary for each discipline within the role, please see details below:
    Welding/Fabrication:
  • CSWIP 3.1 or PCN Level 2 Welding Inspector.

  • Practical experience of the discipline.


  • Machined Parts:
  • Apprenticeship.

  • Practical experience of the discipline.


  • Electrical / Instrumentation:
  • Apprenticeship.

  • Practical experience of the discipline.


  • Painting:
  • CSWIP/ICORR Painting Inspector Level 2.

  • Practical experience of the discipline.


  • Supplementary requirements to gain Non-Destructive Testing Certification:
    Liquid Penetrant Inspection (PT):
  • PCN Level 2.

  • Practical experience.


  • Magnetic Particle Inspection (MT):
  • PCN Level 2

  • Practical experience.


  • Radiographic Interpretation (RT):
  • PCN Level 2.

  • Practical experience.


  • Ultrasonic Examination (UT):
  • PCN Level 2.

  • Practical experience.


  • NDT Inspection (General):
  • NDT Eye Exam (S04868).

  • To be completed annually in accordance with BS EN ISO 9712.
