Full Job Description

The QA Engineering Specialist independently executes a range of critical testing activities for the RAN portfolio of products and services, driving best practice standards for test quality, resource planning and issue resolution, in alignment to business strategy and requirements.
You will be a key member of the team , bringing your RAN and testing experience to cutting edge technologies ,
working directly with designers, operations and equipment vendors. Your experience will help optimise the current testing and directly shape
the future approach to an evolving landscape.
You will be a knowledgeable senior member of the team with practical testing experience spanning 2G/4G/5G NSA and SA and will relish the chance to support the more junior and developin team members.
You'll have the following responsibilities
Using your specialist RAN skills and previous testing experience you will be:
1. Testing RAN features, software releases and new hardware for macro and small cell sites.
2. Planning and writing appropriate Test Strategies and Test Plans to exercise the feature under test, working in collaboration with RAN testing peers, RAN design, RAN vendors and Operations.
3. Identifying and configuring the appropriate RAN environment for test execution, identifying changes and bespoke configuration required for test.
4. Feeding into the continual evolution and improvement of the RAN test environment to bring efficiencies and enhanced capabilities.
5. Accurately executing and recording the evidence required for each identified test case.
6. Highlighting discrepancies between actual and expected results, working with design and labs to identify the root cause.
7. Accurately raising and updating appropriate defects related to test outcome, dependencies, and lab issues.
8. Supporting the Test Manager and Test Engineers in the full lifecycle of test.
9. Contributing to the design and development of test automation solutions that validate the functionality of applications.
10. Championing continuously develops and shares with team knowledge on emerging trends and changes in QA engineering best practices and industry standards.
11. Mentoring other QA engineers, helping to improve the team's abilities by acting as a technical resource.
You'll have the following skills and experience,

  • Support the Automation team to progress the enhancement and growth of the regression test packs.

  • As part of the RAN testing team look for, suggest, work on, areas that can be enhanced to improve efficiencies of the team.

  • Provide senior SME leadership to the more junior RAN test team members and be an approachable mentor.

    Minimum of 10 years' experience in network engineering specialising in 4G/5G RAN from either a vendor or operator perspective.

  • Solid understanding of Mobile wireless RAN domains covering 2G/4G/5G NSA/5G SA RAN standards and call flows.

  • Experience in log capture and analysis, ideally with XCal / XCap

  • Ability to assess call behavior against 3GPP specifications to validate call flows and protocols.

  • Extensive recent testing experience in DRAN/ORAN including end to end troubleshooting (Macro, Small Cells, RU RF, MiMo, CA, Sync, Transport, O&M)

  • Practical experience and knowledge in feature and software parameter alignment using OSS tools appropriate for the RAN vendor.

  • Methodical approach to test preparation, execution, result reporting and defect analysis to support the full testing cycle.

  • Ability to work in partnership with Design and Operations teams, both in house and with external vendors.

  • Skills to articulate plans, progression, blocking factors, defects, and result outcomes to technical peers; clearly articulating the resultant impacts.

  • Ability to trace and analyse layer 2 and 3 messages / RRC/RLC Layers

  • Mobile knowledge extending beyond the RAN to identify impacting behavior i.e. for VoLTE / VoNR call setup.

  • Working knowledge of testing Ericsson and Nokia RAN, for both small cells and macro.

  • Test Management tool exposure, ideally JIRA and Confluence

  • Experience in creating Test Strategy, Test Plan and Test Exit Reports

  • Experience in either Nokia or E/// OSS tools for site configuration, PM statistic collection and FM Alarms and Events.
