Full Job Description

We are recruiting for a Public Affairs Intern to join our Public Affairs team. Reporting to the Public Affairs Manager, this is an excellent opportunity to gain real world, varied and engaging paid experience. This role will work collaboratively with colleagues at all levels to maintain an effective and influential profile for the ABI.,

  • Political monitoring - monitoring daily events in Parliament, writing notes of Select/Bill Committees for colleagues across the ABI;

  • Event support - support for the Public Affairs team's wider political events programme including the Parliamentary Reception and roundtables events;

  • Supporting ABI post General Election engagement - support with drafting letters, arranging meetings with parliamentarians.

    To be considered for this opportunity, it is highly desirable that you hold a degree in Politics, International Relations, Economics or a related subject, and have a keen interest in current affairs and politics. To be successful in the role, it is essential that you are confident in building relationships at all levels, place a high level of attention to detail in all that you do and have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    The Association of British Insurers is the leading trade association for insurers and providers of long term savings. Our 250 members include most household names and specialist providers who contribute £12bn in taxes and manage investments of £1.8trillion.


  • Our role is to:
  • Be the voice of the UK insurance industry, leading debate and speaking up for insurers;

  • Represent the UK insurance industry to government, regulators and policy makers in the UK, EU and internationally, driving effective public policy and regulation;

  • Advocate high standards of customer service within the industry and provide useful information to the public about insurance;

  • Promote the benefits of insurance to the government, regulators, policy makers and the public.

    This is a full time, fixed-term position for six months. The Public Affairs Intern will be paid the London Living Wage (£9.40 per hour). The role will be based at our new offices at One America Square, near Fenchurch Street station.
