Full Job Description

We now have a unique opportunity for a quality assurance specialist to join the small QA team in this service. As a Technician for Quality Assurance you will oversee the well established quality systems in place, driving systems such as process monitoring, document control, audit and validation.

  • Registered Pharmacy Technician or Science & Manufacturing Technician, with experience in aseptic compounding, or

  • Bachelor degree in a scientific or technical discipline which includes elements of process quality management, or

  • Diploma in a scientific, technical or manufacturing-related discipline with further relevant qualification (eg in quality management or quality assurance)

  • Level 2 qualification in a pharmacy discipline with suitable aseptic experience (with a view to complete SMT apprenticeship)

  • Analysing production data and producing reports for managers to drive quality improvement are a vital part of the job, so the ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and spoken, is essential for the role.
You will often have to brief staff on the findings of your monitoring, and train staff and students in both 1:1 and teaching formats. And you'll put your maths skills and experience of office software to full use in this work too.
You'll role-model to production staff a commitment to best practice, but the role also requires creative out-of-the-box thinking when we undertake investigations and audits or plan changes. A clear scientific approach will be vital for undertaking the validation and development projects you'll be responsible for, and as part of only a small QA team you will have more autonomy than most at this level, so an ability to be self-starting and directing will be critical to success.
Future service development may require cross or off site working

Pharmacy Aseptic Services specialises in preparing sterile injectable medicines for some of the most critically ill patients in our hospital, including cancer chemotherapy, parenteral nutrition and other specialist injections. A team of around 50 staff provide these services, which are currently based in 3 clean-room manufacturing facilities in the hospital. Quality Management underpins all we do, and we are committed to achieving excellence in the quality of the products we provide to our patients; both units received good reports in their recent external inspections.

As one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, we offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to. UHS is rated 'Good' by the CQC and in the latest national NHS Staff Survey, we were in the top 10 acute trusts for staff engagement and for staff recommending the hospital as a place to work or receive care.

All non-clinical roles may involve a mixture of on site and remote working, Specific details and flexible working options can be discussed as part of the interview process. UHS employees are able to access a range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme.
