Full Job Description

  • To assist Depot Manager at all times where required

  • To Supervise all operational staff and ensure compliance with Company policies and procedures

  • To control and maintain the Asphalt plant following company procedures

  • To ensure as far as is practicable the daily mixing program is completed to order & on time

  • To record all relevant information regarding daily production as required by the Company

  • Dispatch and load materials following Company procedures

  • Monitor site progress and record relevant information as required by the Company

  • Ensure ex-works customers are dealt with in a safe and efficient manner

  • To ensure incoming materials are unloaded as per Company procedures safely and without unnecessary delay and are placed in the correct storage area

  • To carry out maintenance inspections and housekeeping as per schedules and to assist in maintenance duties

  • To report any plant defects and raise any items identified in plant inspections to the Depot Manager

  • To carry out any stock checks and report any deficiencies & ordering of bitumen/fuel/fibers/filler.

  • To operate mobile plant, loading shovel & telehandler

  • To visually inspect finished product and to ensure temperature checks and sampling is carried out as per schedules

  • To assist in plant calibrations

  • To report near misses/dangerous occurrences and investigate as appropriate

  • To attend regular operational/safety/audit meetings

  • Carry out meaningful weekly toolbox talks with Operatives

  • To ensure mobile plant is inspected daily with any defects reported

  • Liaise with internal and external engineering and electrical resources where necessary

  • To assist with the review and update of risk assessments & safe systems of work

  • To ensure risk assessments & safe systems of work are carried out & relevant to tasks

  • To carry out depot tours, PPE checks when required

  • Control/reduce plant wastage in clean outs and liaise with Technical function to improve plant efficiency

  • Assist in control of contractors on site including delivery of site inductions

  • Ensure daily environmental checks are carried out correctly and report any non-compliances to the Depot Manager

  • Check suitability of delivery vehicles & drivers including PPE

  • Ensure that day shift and potential weekend working are appropriately resourced


  • Accountability:
  • To stop the use of plant for reasons of risk to Safety, Quality, essential maintenance or environmental reasons

  • To request Production Operatives to carry out duties as defined in the operational plan and those tasks necessary to operate the plant efficiently and safely


  • Tasks to be completed: · General supervision of the site and all its activities · Mixing of asphalt· Operation of mobile plant· Weighbridge operations· Plant maintenance

    External relationships and communication:
  • Visitors to company premises

  • Ex-works customers

  • Hauliers

  • Contractors

  • Internal and External auditors (third party accreditations)

  • Local Authority and regulatory officers


  • Internal relationships and communications
  • Depot Manager for all matters

  • Quality Manager for Technical/Quality matters

  • Commercial Manager for vehicle and material resource requirements


  • Key measures and targets

    Knowledge and Experience
  • Good knowledge of depot operational procedures

  • Good knowledge of raw materials and finished products

  • Understanding of basic maintenance

  • Understanding of Health, Safety and Environmental policies

  • Ability to act quickly and efficiently when problems or changes occur

  • Ability to operate mobile plant

  • To communicate with other staff members


  • Education and Training

    Essential:· 3+ years asphalt production experience required

    · 2+ years supervisory experience

    · Minimum IOSH Working Safely (or equivalent)

    · SHE NVQ Level 4 or above (or equivalent)

    · Mobile Plant NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent)

    Desirable:

    · Minimum IOSH Managing Safely (or equivalent)

    · SHE NVQ Level 6 (or equivalent)

    · NEBOSH General Cert in H&S
