Full Job Description

  • Lead design modifications to enhance quality, reduce lead time, and lower tooling and manufacturing costs.

  • Maintain calibration of simulation software and measurement tools.

  • Foster a culture of "right first time, every time."

  • Advance and support the operational methodology of simulation software.

  • Coordinate and maintain QC systems according to VFL quality management standards.

  • Reduce manufacturing costs and eliminate reworking.

  • Act as a role model to influence positive change.

  • Mentor employees with potential and passion for learning.


  • Main Purpose of the Role:
  • Implement improvements in safety, efficiency, utilisation, and housekeeping.

  • Apply best practice solutions (gating and feeding) to optimise yield and reduce non-value-added activities (cutting, grinding, transporting, etc.).

  • Optimise manufacturing methods and tooling/rigging layouts.

  • Upgrade and maintain NPI to ensure all manufacturing data is logged, with finishing instructions and packaging tracked for on-time deliveries.

  • Liaise with subcontract tooling engineers and pattern shops.

  • Interface with customers, machinists, and subcontract processors of VFL castings.

  • Fully utilise flow and solidification simulation software for troubleshooting, method optimisation, and casting design improvements.

  • Achieve agreed monthly business plan objectives.

  • Coordinate methods of measurement and inspection.

  • Publish and maintain weekly metal

  • Publish and maintain weekly metal costs.

  • Manage and maintain tooling checks.


  • Other Tasks:
  • Support HR issues related to the department, including hiring, induction, training, disciplinary actions, and appraisals.

  • Maintain skills matrices to enhance team flexibility.

  • Manage and coordinate inventories of purchased materials in the pattern shop.

  • Collaborate closely with the sales function to expand markets and applications for potential customers.

  • Assist with customer visits, liaison, and audits.

  • Ensure all machines, plants, and equipment meet specifications and operational demands, ensuring optimum utilization.

  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Recommend and implement cost-saving projects.

  • Visually manage all KPIs.

  • Attend and participate in various meetings, including daily reviews, quality, H&S, production, NPI, continuous improvement, and monthly business plan reviews.

  • Ensure all pattern shop equipment is checked and maintained.

  • Participate in process and quality audits.

  • Maintain succession planning and coverage within the department.
