As a Police Constable no two days are the same, it's a challenging yet hugely rewarding role. If you have great communication skills, enjoy teamwork, and thrive on variety then this is the job for you! Preventing, detecting, and tackling crime are key elements of this role, however you will need determination, patience, and the ability to build and maintain relationships with the public; in order to support and protect victims and vulnerable individuals. You will make a real difference to people's lives, every day, and often when they need you the most.

  • Tattoos - you will also be requested to provide photos and describe of any visible tattoos you have


  • You may require the following documents to complete this application form:
  • A Passport style photograph

  • A copy of your photo card driving licence

  • A downloaded DVLA summary showing full driving record

  • A copy of your paper driving licence counterpart (Northern Ireland only)

  • A copy of your British Passport or birth certificate (if a candidate does not have a passport, then they may use their birth certificate, but will need to provide a copy of a British passport once they have obtained one.)

  • Copies of your qualifications relating to English and Maths (only). If applying for the Degree Holder Police Constable Apprenticeship, you will need a copy of your Degree Certificate.

  • Clear, colour photos of any non-intimate tattoos

  • Formal translation from a reputable source for any foreign language or symbol tattoos

  • Any paperwork relating to discharged debts, CCJ, bankruptcy etc

  • Deed poll certificate for any name changes

    To be eligible to begin your training, you must hold a level 2 qualification in English Language and Maths at GCSE grade C or above or grades 4-9 before joining.


  • You should also hold a level 3 qualification equivalent to 64 UCAS points.

    If you do not hold a level 3 qualification, please contact the Recruitment Team to discuss this further, we will ask for a Personal Statement in place of this qualification for review.

    Degree Holder Entry Programme (DHEP)

    The DHEP route is a two-year integrated vocational course, with on and off the job training, learning both practical skills and academic study.

    At the end of your academic study, you will be awarded the 'Graduate Diploma in Professional Policing Practice'

    Eligibility:

    To be eligible to begin your training, you must hold a degree in any subject- Level 6 or equivalent.

    Please note that for either route you must be able toe evidence the required qualifications with full certification.,
  • To begin training you must have a FULL UK driving License

  • You must be aged 18 to begin training

  • You must be a British citizen, an EC/EEA national or a Commonwealth citizen or foreign national with no restrictions on your stay in the United Kingdom.

  • You will need a minimum of three years continuous residential history in the UK for you to meet vetting requirements.

  • You must hold the required qualifications as described above for your desired entry route.

    Closing date, The starting salary for a Police Constable £28,551.00 (Pay Point 1).

    Your salary will increase yearly on the anniversary of your start date and by pay awards, which are generally effective from 1st September in any year. Maximum salary after 7 years' service as a Police Constable is £46,044.00

  • Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA)

  • Degree Holder Entry Programme (DHEP)


  • Here at Wiltshire, we recognise policing as a degree-level profession. Join as a Police Constable, receive on the job training, and receive fully funded academic study. We work with the University of South Wales and from day one you will become a full time Police Constable and a full-time student.

    During your first 24 weeks of training (including two scheduled weeks holiday) you will undertake your initial Police Learning Phase (IPL) you will be provided with a timetable for this period, typically it is Monday-Friday 09:00am- 17:00pm. Your academic study will be incorporated into your timetable during this period, and you will always have support from your trainers and the university lecturers. Please note that no leave other than the scheduled two weeks can be taken during your first 24 weeks as an officer.

    The PCDA route is a three-year integrated vocational degree apprenticeship, with on and off the job training, learning both practical skills and academic study.
