Full Job Description

The South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU) has an opening for an Intelligence Officer (PCs) in the Sensitive Intelligence Unit (SIU).

The SIU is a unique function in South East Policing who provide intelligence support to operations in Force, ROCU and across partners and no two days are the same.

We support operations in the highest harm and threat areas, exploiting and enhancing intelligence from multiple sensitive data sources, including the interception of communications from Targeted Intercept (TI) and Targeted Equipment Interference (TEI), to problem solve and maximise enforcement opportunities.

Identifying risks and threats to people is also a key part of the role. We provide intelligence support to assist in the prevention and management of Threats to Life (TTL) in order to safeguard vulnerable people.

Due to the high harm and threat the SIU operate in, the department can often be an exhilarating and fast-moving working environment. We work with innovative technology and constantly evolve to keep up with the ever-growing complexity and sophistication of organised crime.

As a member of SIU staff, you will work to exploit all relevant information from sensitive intelligence sources in order to produce actionable and timely intelligence so that SEROCU can continue to disrupt organised criminals who pose the highest risk to the UK.

Whether it is identifying and disseminating intelligence around firearms, cash or a drugs handover, an organised immigration crime attempt, or an opportunity to identify a person of interest, the input of SIU staff ensures that when the operational teams deploy, they achieve the greatest impact and value to an investigation. You can expect a varied and fulfilling career within this business area.

PIP2 and previous experience in this field is not essential with training and development opportunities provided throughout to the right people.

Please note that this role is part of a national, regional and local network and as a result, you may be required to travel for business purposes mainly across the South East Region and occasionally throughout the UK. Therefore, the successful candidate will require a full UK driving licence., If you wish to apply you need to have support from your Head of Command / Department.

  • Kent Officers will need to inform Kent HR Resource Planning at the earliest opportunity of intention to apply. Every Officer application form must be signed by the Chief Supt or police staff equivalent and sent to Kent HR Resource Planning no later than 5 working days prior to closing date unless exceptional circumstances apply. This is required so that Chief Officer approval can be obtained for the application to progress, which will be managed by Kent HR Resource Planning. These steps must be completed prior to submission application. If your application for an opportunity is not approved prior to submission to the recruiting organisation you may not be supported for release to the role, should you be successful.

  • Must be Section 57-59 IPA briefed by the appropriate agencies (SIU).

  • NCA Product Handlers Course (SIU).

  • H5 Course (SIU).

  • All intelligence staff will be required to work towards the Intelligence Professionalisation Program for Intelligence Accreditation.

    Proven ability to demonstrate high standards of integrity and confidentiality.

  • Proven ability to manage intelligence from multiple sources.

  • Understanding of current investigative and intelligence methods and tactics.

  • Knowledge of CPIA and disclosure requirements.

  • Excellent communication skills and effective partnership working.

  • Previous recent experience of working in a covert environment or with covert assets.

  • Knowledge of the relevant law from Part 1 of RIPA/IPA.
