Full Job Description

  • Have you experienced and recovered from emotional and mental health challenges during pregnancy or after the birth of a baby?

  • Are you experienced in supporting others facing emotional and mental health challenges drawing on your own experiences?

  • Are you able to connect with people and quickly establish rapport?

  • Do you have leadership/management experience?

  • If this is you, Light Peer Support has an exciting opportunity to be part of the government's national Family Hub/Start for Life programme, supporting families and children at the start of their lives.

You'll be at the forefront of the Family Hub/Start for Life transformation programme co-ordinating the delivery of locality based perinatal mental health (PNMH) peer support services to support the transition to parenthood when parents face emotional and/or mental health difficulties.

    About Light Peer Support

Light is a perinatal mental health peer support charity, set up in 2010, which has grown to support parents and their families across South Yorkshire. We're led by our passion to support mental health during pregnancy and beyond for all families from all communities.

We work across South Yorkshire with families who are experiencing emotional and mental health difficulties in the perinatal period. Working in partnership across the statutory and voluntary sector to raise awareness of perinatal mental health difficulties and the support available.

We're committed to providing services that embrace diversity to support equity in service access and promote equality of opportunity.

Perinatal Mental Health (PNMH) Peer Support

    Co-ordinator role

We're delighted that Barnsley Council, as part of the national Family Hub and Start for Life Programme, commissioned Light to provide a perinatal mental health peer support intervention.

We will be able to support more people who are affected by emotional and mental health problems during pregnancy and the postnatal period, and/or are facing parent - infant relationship difficulties.

Integrated services will be delivered in Family Hubs, ensuring that perinatal mental health peer support is available locally right across Barnsley

As PNMH Peer Support Co-ordinator, you'll co-ordinate and deliver PNMH peer support services across Barnsley. This will involve the co-ordination of group and 1-1 support. You'll lead and manage a PNMH Peer Support worker who will be delivering PNMH peer support which is consistent with the Perinatal Peer Support Principles developed by the Maternal Mental Health Alliance. You'll be based at your nearest Family Hub but be able to travel across the Barnsley area and on occasion to Sheffield.

    Equality at Light

Light is committed to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in all that we do and we welcome applications from people from all communities particularly under- represented groups. We're aiming for a workforce that is truly representative of the communities we serve.

We're a family friendly employer and open to discussion on flexible/part-time working subject to service needs.
