Full Job Description

You will be joining our Operational team as a PLC, Controls and Automation Engineer.

Your main responsibility will be to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our production sites. Your technical skills will be used to program, maintain, and upgrade PLCs, HMIs, and communication network infrastructure. Problem-solving and fault finding are skills you excel in.

We encourage you to contribute ideas, develop new ways of working, and share your expertise with the rest of the team.

You should have in-depth knowledge of Mitsubishi PLCs, and familiarity with Allen Bradley, and Siemens technologies would be beneficial. Your understanding of Ladder Logic programming, HMI configuration, and fieldbus networks will be valuable in providing technical assistance to our teams in Kent, Sussex, Hampshire, and Berkshire.

Flexibility, self-motivation, and adaptability are important in responding to changing priorities and challenging environments. You will generally work 37 hours per week from Monday to Friday, between 7:30 am and 3:30 pm. As we provide an essential service, you may be required to work as part of a standby rota to respond to incidents outside of normal working hours and on weekends.

  • What will you be accountable for?
  • Responsible for the repair, maintenance and installation of Operational technology equipment to ensure the reliable and efficient operation of our production works and associated sites.

  • Administration of all South East water's Operational Technology programs/files.

  • Providing South East Water with specialist in depth knowledge of PLCs, HMIs and control Networks (Ethernet, Modbus, Profibus).

  • Modifications of PLC/HMI programs & Network configuration to correct issues or improve/optimise site performance.

  • Creation, implementation and commissioning of new PLC/HMI/Network programs/configurations.

  • Specification and procurement of Operational technology hardware, based on SEW electrical specification and site requirements.

  • Providing technical documentation for all new installations, FDS', schematics, commissioning etc.

  • Providing technical support for South East Water technicians including complex problem solving when required.

  • Work in line with company policies, procedures and safe systems of work.

  • Routine administration (e.g. timesheets, health and safety forms, vehicle record sheets etc)

  • Monitor and maintain security of production site.

  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of Mitsubishi PLC's, further knowledge of Allen Bradley, and Siemens would be advantageous.

  • Experience of creating PLC/HMI/SCADA programs.

  • Experience of configuring fieldbus & control level networks.

  • Technical understanding of control systems e.g. Pressure, Temperature, Flow.

  • Full driver's license

  • Some knowledge of water treatment and process would be an advantage but not essential.
