Full Job Description

An opportunity is available for a Physical Security Manager reporting to the Head of Engineering Policy.

The base location for this position will be agreed with the successful applicant, but there will be a requirement to work throughout the whole NGED company area.

You will lead a team of security professionals within NGED's physical security, the job purpose will be to:

  • Implement, maintain and assure physical controls relating to NIS, Cyber and CNI

  • Liaise with local Police Forces and NPSA on security of the Company distribution network assets and property.

  • Liaise with external parties and relevant NGED parties on actions related to Government Designated NGED Sites.

  • Support Nominated Site Owners through the team as required by them on security matters.

  • Monitor developments in relevant and required products/services to advise Head of Engineering Policy on new and revised policy and specifications.

  • Monitor emerging legislation impacting on security issues in NGED.

  • Monitor progress on substation security enhancement programme for Regulatory Reporting.

  • Act as Company lead on metal and energy theft matters and operation of SIRs system.

  • Represent the Company as required in external meetings such as Security Task Group.

  • Responsibility for the company Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC)


  • As part of our hybrid working approach this role offers a mix of office and home working. Hybrid working can only be considered once your initial training is complete and subject to business need.

    Depending on experience, you may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant courses and training are complete.

    If you are offered a position, you will be required to successfully complete a basic DBS check that shows any unspent convictions or conditional cautions.
    Main Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and manage security policies, procedures, to protect company assets, employees, and customers.

  • Lead the team to conduct risk assessments, threat analyses, and security audits to identify vulnerabilities and mitigate risks.

  • Implement and maintain physical security measures, such as access controls, surveillance systems, and alarm systems, to prevent unauthorised access and ensure safety.

  • Coordinate with external security agencies, law enforcement, and regulatory authorities to address security incidents, emergencies, and investigations.

  • Train and educate employees on security protocols, emergency procedures, and crisis management to enhance security awareness and preparedness.

  • Monitor security operations, including patrols, inspections, and incident response, to ensure compliance with policies and standards.

  • Ensure the response to security incidents, breaches, and emergencies in a timely and effective manner, following established protocols and procedures.

  • Manage vendors and fulfil the role of Senior Nominated Person for contracts relating to physical security, providing guidance, support, and performance feedback.

  • Maintain accurate records of security incidents, investigations, and corrective actions taken to address security breaches and violations.

  • Stay updated on security trends, technologies, and best practices to recommend and implement improvements to security programs and systems.

  • Manage the Alarm Receiving centre ensuring real time monitoring and response.

    Proven experience in security management, law enforcement, or military roles, with at least 5 years in a leadership position.

  • Strong understanding of security principles, practices, and technologies.

  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.

  • Analytical mind-set with the ability to assess risks and develop mitigation strategies.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

  • Crisis management and problem-solving skills.

  • Integrity and professionalism in handling sensitive security information.

  • Adaptability and flexibility in responding to security incidents and emergencies.

  • Proficiency in security management software, surveillance systems, and Microsoft Office suite.

  • Valid driving licence.


  • It is essential that you possess the relevant certifications (e.g., CPP, PSP, CISSP).

    A Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, or a related field is desirable.
