Full Job Description

The Packaging Manager will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of packaging operations within our Supply Chain. This includes designing, implementing, and managing packaging solutions that ensure the safe and efficient transportation of parts. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in packaging engineering, supply chain management, project leadership, and will excel in accurately calculating packaging loop sizes, creating, and maintaining packaging plans, utilizing technology to optimize trailer and warehouse fill, and maintaining packaging data in SAP.
Principal Accountabilities

  • Packaging Design and Development: Lead the design and development of packaging solutions for automotive parts and components, ensuring they meet quality, safety, and cost requirements.

  • Supplier Management: Collaborate with suppliers to source packaging materials and components, negotiate contracts, and ensure timely delivery of packaging supplies.

  • Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate packaging processes to identify opportunities for improvement in efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability.

  • Quality Assurance: Implement quality control measures to maintain the integrity of packaged products throughout the supply chain, including conducting regular audits and inspections.

  • Team Leadership: Supervise a team of packaging engineers, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure the successful execution of packaging operations.

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, procurement, logistics, and engineering, to integrate packaging requirements into overall manufacturing and supply chain strategies.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory standards and industry regulations governing packaging, transportation, and hazardous materials handling.

  • Cost Management: Develop and manage the packaging budget, tracking expenses, identifying and delivering cost-saving opportunities, and optimizing packaging-related expenditures.

  • Packaging Loop Calculation: Accurately calculate the size of each packaging loop based on supplier location, build volume, and other relevant factors to optimize transportation and minimize costs as part of supplier nominations process as well as gateway deliverables.

  • Packaging Plan Creation and Maintenance: Develop and maintain a comprehensive packaging plan for every part tool, ensuring that packaging solutions meet the requirements of each part and are aligned with production schedules and logistics processes.

  • SAP Data Maintenance: Ensure accurate upkeep of packaging data in SAP, including material master data, packaging specifications, and inventory levels.

  • Tracing Strategy: Develop and implement a tracing strategy for packaging materials and products throughout the supply chain, leveraging technology where possible to enhance visibility and accountability.

  • Technology Utilization: Identify and evaluate new technologies and tools to optimize trailer and warehouse fill, create business cases for their adoption, and lead implementation efforts to achieve efficiency gains.

    Experience in packaging design, development, and management, preferably in the automotive or manufacturing industry.

  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop teams.

  • Excellent project management abilities, with a track record of successfully leading cross-functional initiatives.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on continuous improvement using recognised tools i.e. Six sigma, PDCA, DMAIC.

  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards related to packaging and transportation.

  • Experience in accurately calculating packaging loop sizes and creating/maintaining packaging plans.

  • Proficiency in SAP or similar ERP systems for data maintenance and management.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
