Full Job Description

· Deliver safe practice by adhering to the NMC code of practice and all relevant local, national and professional standards.

· Assist theatre lead and surgeons in providing excellent care to all patients.

· Provide scrub assistance during operative procedures (cataract, crosslinking, RLE, glaucoma, VR, oculoplastics, minor ops and laser).

· Carry out admissions and discharge of theatre patients.

· Check the accuracy and completeness of theatre notes.

· Carry out pre-assessment for theatre patients.

· Complete the medical records on EPR system.

· Manage theatre stock and consumables.

· Order and check intraocular lenses for individual patients and manage OCL Vision bank lens stock.

· Liaise with external companies to ensure instruments are sterilised and delivered on time.

· Participate in audit and risk assessments in the clinic.

· Keep up to date with relevant developments within ophthalmology and surgical field of practice.

· Observe patient and clinic confidentiality at all times.

· Undertake mandatory training as required and to provide evidence of completion in a timely manner, including annual appraisal.

· Knowledge of relevant CQC policies and procedures.

Other Essential Skills and Abilities:

  • RGN registration.

  • Ophthalmology theatre experience.

  • ILS and ALS desirable or willingness to undertake.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills

  • Professional attitude and appearance
