Full Job Description

The Operations Manager ensures the effective and smooth run of the day-to-day of Brixton House, providing a safe environment and unique experience for audiences.

The role includes to manage the Customer Service Host team (Front of House, Ushers, Bar staff) as well as the Venue Duty Managers team., Building:

  • Maintain a high level of cleanliness and tidiness throughout the building and be the main point of contact to the cleaning service company

  • Manage the building waste accordingly to our Sustainability commitment

  • Work closely with the Maintenance and Events Technician teams

  • Provide assistance to companies using Studios and Theatres including get-ins and get-outs

  • Oversee building services alongside the Head of Building, Technical and Producing and coordinate the contractors for any maintenance, repair work

  • Coordinate loading bays usage between contractors

  • Coordinate the Security team

  • Manage the digital access system Paxton to studios and theatre space

  • Coordinate catering for events across Hires, Creative Engagement, Marketing and Programming events


  • Duty Management:
  • Act as Duty Manager one evening and one weekend a week

  • Open and Close the building

  • Brief and Coordinate the Customer Service Host team about activities happening in the building

  • Act as Fire Marshall and First Aider if required

  • Cash up the tills at the end of the day


  • Health & Safety:
  • Ensure that staff and audiences comply with Brixton House Health & Safety policy

  • Maintain the First Aid kits and equipment

  • Ensure relevant signage are up to date throughout the building


  • Staff Management:
  • Lead the Customer Service Host and Venue Duty Manager teams

  • Write monthly rota for the Customer Service Host team and review weekly according to the various activities

  • Track the Customer Service Host team attendance (lateness, absences, sickness, annual leave)

  • Ensure that the Customer Service Host team has relevant training and organise training days when required working alongside the Senior HR Advisor

  • Recruit casual staff and lead their induction

  • Address any disciplinary or performance issue alongside the Venue Duty Managers


  • Bar / Catering
  • Manage the Operations of Brixton House Bar & Café

  • Ensure that all regulations are complied with

  • Control the stock levels and order accordingly using Eposnow

  • Organise storage

  • Maintain function and operation of the bar tills

  • Oversee maintenance of the equipment (coffee machine, dishwashers, beer lines…)

  • Coordinate catering for events across Hires, Creative Engagement, Marketing and Programming events

  • Ensure the bar is a significant income stream through price review and customer base retain


  • Office
  • Organise Office stationery storage and orders

  • Ensure Office equipment are well maintained and coordinate services/repairs

  • Keep suppliers' and contractors' accounts up to date


  • Communications and Reporting:
  • Design and implement effective systems across the various departments

  • Report monthly to the Head of Commercial Operations

  • Lead the weekly Operations Meeting with the Venue Duty Managers to coordinate a seamless delivery of all activities happening in the studio and theatre spaces

    Ability to manage and motivate diverse teams

  • Confident communicator with resourceful and proactive problem solving skills

  • 2 years + experience working in a multi-space venue

  • Strong written communication skills

  • Highly organised and attention to detail

  • Ability to multi-task and take initiative in a fast-paced environment within short deadlines

  • Passion for building and events

  • Strong IT skills

  • Ability to work with a wide range of people including vulnerable young people and adults from the local community

  • Keen interest in the arts and in particular Brixton House


  • DESIRABLE:
  • Previous experience of using Eposnow

  • Experience of working in an arts venue

  • Experience in duty managing

  • Hold a valid first aid qualification

  • Personal License holder
