The Health and Care Act 2022 introduced a statutory requirement that regulated service providers must ensure their staff receive learning disability and autism training appropriate to their role.
Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust working on behalf of the North Central London Integrated Care System, have an exciting opportunity to join the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training Team. We are looking for Facilitating Trainers (x2) to co-deliver the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training for Learning Disability and Autism alongside experts with lived experience, to our health workforce.
This is an incredible opportunity to influence how care is delivered by providing health and social care staff. You will be joining a friendly, supportive, and dedicated team who are passionate about making a difference for people with learning disabilities and autistic people.
As a Facilitating Trainer you will have an understanding of learning disability and autism and are likely to have training experience. You will lead and support expert by experience Co-trainers who will be autistic people and people with a learning disability.
Please note that we reserve the right to close posts as soon as sufficient applications are received., + Undertake a supervisory role for expert with lived experience co-trainers, ensuring appropriate pastoral support, leadership and coaching.
+ Effectively support experts with lived experience Co-trainers, ensuring they are fully included and supported in the delivery of the sessions.
+ Provide reasonable adjustments to support individual needs of the training teams prior to, during and after training sessions.
+ Become an NHS England-accredited Oliver McGowan Mandatory trainer.
+ Lead the Oliver McGowan training teams in the preparation of training sessions, and the post-sessions review / improve cycle.
+ Lead and co-deliver Oliver McGowan Mandatory training sessions.
+ Help to keep training participants and the training team safe and confident in their surroundings and act on safeguarding and health and safety concerns in line with organisation policies.
+ Understand the Oliver McGowan "Train the Trainer" information around the legal aspects, keeping up to date with current and emerging thinking in health and social care practice, learning disability and autism.
+ Understand and respond to queries and challenges from delegates during training., + Role model exemplary behaviour in terms of conduct, attitude, performance, when delivering The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism.
+ Undertake a supervisory role for expert with lived experience co-trainers, ensuring appropriate pastoral support, leadership and coaching in line with organisational expectations.
+ Effectively support experts with lived experience Co-trainers, ensuring they are fully included and supported in the delivery of the sessions, helping them to develop skills and confidence.
+ Provide reasonable adjustments to support individual needs of the training teams prior to, during and after training sessions.
+ Become an NHS England-accredited Oliver McGowan Mandatory trainer by successfully attending the "Train the Trainer" training.
+ Lead the Oliver McGowan training teams in the preparation of training sessions, and the post-sessions review / improve cycle to ensure that training is of a high quality.
+ Lead and co-deliver Oliver McGowan Mandatory training sessions.
+ Help to keep training participants and the training team safe and confident in their surroundings and act on safeguarding and health and safety concerns in line with organisation policies.
+ Understand the "Train the Trainer" information around the following legal aspects, keeping up to date with current and emerging thinking in health and social care practice, learning disability and autism, laws of consent (UK), The Mental Capacity Act 2005, The Human Rights Act 1998, The Autism Act 2009, Do not attempt cardiovascular resuscitation case law (DNACPR), LeDeR and other associated data.
+ Understand and respond to a range of complex queries and challenges from delegates during training, identifying the correct response from the range of factual and most up to date material available.

Person specification

+ Educated to degree level in relevant subject or equivalent level of experience of working at a similar level in specialist area.
+ A relevant teaching qualification such as Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS), Multi-professional support of learning and assessment in practice, or an equivalent. Significant experience of proficient and successful delivery of face-to-face training in health and social care, or similar environment.
+ Experience delivering high quality services to people with a learning disability and autistic people in a professional role such as RNLD, OT or social worker, or can demonstrate an equivalent level of skills, knowledge and experience.
+ Knowledge and understanding of the learning cycle and its application.

+ Previous experience in similar role in public sector

+ Clear communicator with excellent presentation skills; capable of constructing and delivering clear ideas and concepts concisely and accurately for diverse audiences.
+ Ability to analyse and interpret information and complex facts
+ Problem solving skills and ability to respond to sudden unexpected demands and manage potentially challenging situations.
+ Experience of supporting others to plan for success, including supporting any reasonable adjustments within the team.
+ Skills for manipulating information. Intermediate keyboard skills and excellent knowledge of PowerPoint
+ Ability to work in a self-directed manner as part of a distance-managed team, utilising good organisational skills to prioritise and manage workload.
Knowledge and experience
+ Significant experience of proficient and successful delivery of face-to-face training in health and social care, or similar environment.
+ Has excellent up to date working knowledge of the fields of autism and learning disability and is familiar with current issues.
+ Has experience leading and developing quality practice in others.
+ Knowledge and experience of a variety of learning and development methodologies and their application, in particular coaching, action learning, and facilitation.
+ Knowledge and understanding of the learning cycle and its application.
Other requirements
+ An ability to work flexibly and independently in accordance with the needs of the role, this may include covering training sessions at short notice.
+ Ability to travel to dispersed locations without restriction.
+ Ability to deliver training which may include distressing and /or emotional content.
