Full Job Description

This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join an NHS service that is focussed on delivering the best healthcare services to the local population via a Phlebotomy Service at the brand new Hull and East Riding Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) which is due to open in March 2025.
Our ambition is to transform the way we traditionally deliver healthcare and explore new and innovative delivery models that reflects the needs of both our patients and our staff. Initially this service will be provided at the Wilberforce Centre in Storey Street until the new premises are complete early in 2025.
The role will be within the phlebotomy service providing venepuncture and point of care testing to patients. You will work with other health professionals to provide care in a busy diagnostic environment. The post holder will be required to be proficient in venepuncture.
The service will see a large throughput of patients so a high standard of patient care skills are required along with an ability to be flexible and deal with challenging situations, possessing a helpful and pleasant demeanour is essential.
Initially the phlebotomy service will be provided 5 days a week through the whole year. The post holder should be prepared to work weekends and Bank Holidays and you will also be expected to cover the service hours on a rota basis.
The post holder will be based at the CDC and will also be expected to support services at Hull Royal Infirmary to meet the service needs., The post holder will work as part of the clinical team to perform point of care testing and collect blood samples from patients through venepuncture, as requested by clinicians and other appropriately authorised doctors and health professionals.
They will ensure all samples are collected safely in appropriate containers, labelled correctly, and prepared and dispatched to relevant laboratory sections in a timely and correct manner whilst respecting the dignity of patients, and the needs of other clinical services.
The post holder will also contribute to the provision of an efficient, high-quality service providing support to the Registered Nurse and wider team in the delivery of direct patient care. The role will also entail ensuring and maintaining a clean, tidy, safe, well-stocked and comfortable environment for patients.
