Full Job Description

Kingsway Surgery has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced nurse prescriber to join our team on a part-time basis, for 4 days per week. You will need to be competent in reviewing minor illnesses on a day to day basis as well as patients with chronic long term conditions.

The main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Undertaking health assessments, administering medication & treatments, & performing diagnostic tests

  • Providing & evaluating a range of health interventions to ensure that patients' health & social care needs are met

  • General health & well-being promotion.

  • Creating individual, person-centred plans for patients with, or at risk of, a long term condition

  • Managing & treating long-term conditions, in line with national & local policies & practice needs

  • Reviewing medication for therapeutic effectiveness, in accordance with evidence-based practice as well as national & practice protocols; working with patients to support their adherence to prescribed treatments

  • Prioritising health problems & intervening appropriately, to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care

  • Supporting & managing the health needs of women presenting for sexual health & contraception, & cervical cytology consultations

  • Implementing & participating in, vaccination & immunisation programmes for adults & children, including travel abroad

  • Meeting the needs of patients presenting for opportunistic wound care

  • Hypertension review & management

  • Running asthma, COPD & diabetes clinics & reviews New patient & health checks



  • All applicants should have the following qualifications, registrations, skills and experience:

  • A relevant nursing degree

  • Current NMC registration with an active PIN

  • A prescribing qualification

  • General practice experience

  • Knowledge of SystmOne

  • Experience in diagnosing and treating patients who present with acute medical and minor illnesses

  • Relevant expertise in managing long term conditions

  • Compassionate manner with an empathetic approach and demonstrable kindness in all aspects of your work. The successful candidate will value the dignity of our patients, their relatives and carers, as well as their colleagues at the practice

  • Insight and understanding of current issues in nursing and the wider NHS

    We are a large surgery, of c. 14,000 patients, working out of a new medical centre. We have a clinical team of 2 GP partners, 4 salaried GPs, 2 advanced nurse practitioners, 2 nurse prescribers, 1 prescribing paramedic, 3 practice nurses, 1 HCA and 1 phlebotomist. We work closely with our primary care network staff and care coordinators as well as the additional PCN staff as follows: 3 first contact practitioners, 1 CPN, 1 mental health support worker, 2 social prescribers, a team of remote pharmacists, including a specialist pharmacist who looks after our care home residents & long term condition patients, & 3 paramedics who carry out our home visit requests & seasonal vaccinations for the care home & house-bound patients.


  • We have additional support with our SMI & maternity patients, & the patients/families/carers who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease.

    We are a SystmOne practice, using Patchs econsult system and Arden templates. Our clinical team are supported by 10 receptionists, 2 scanning clerks, 2 prescribing clerks, 2 medical secretaries, an assistant practice manager & practice manager.
