Full Job Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual who is professional, reliable, innovative and flexible to join us as a Specialist Biomedical Scientist in Haematology & Blood Transfusion at Ipswich Hospital.

As part of this role you will work a full rota which will be predominately nights subject to change upon needs of the service.

The role will include lone shift night working in Haematology and Blood Transfusion following a period of induction during core hours. Night work attracts agenda for change enhancements and a current local night shift enhancement (subject to change in the future). This post is full time, however part time would be considered.

You will join a friendly and busy MHRA and UKAS compliant hospital lab who are committed to the training and development of our staff. We encourage our staff to undertake internal and external courses to aid their development., You will enjoy a varied range of responsibilities from maintaining the quality management system and UKAS accreditation, training and supervision of less experienced members of staff, validating and authorising results and most importantly providing a safe quality service for our patients.

You will be expected to resolve complex equipment or process problems and perform manual, semi-automated and fully automated laboratory investigations, including specialist investigations, within defined service area accurately and efficiently.

You will participate in the day to day management of stock control and usage. This may include maintaining Blood Transfusion stock levels and records and monitor usage to ensure efficient use where appropriate.

We use Grifols analysers in BT, Sysmex XNs and ACL TOPS in Haematology & coagulation. Previous experience with or an understanding of the technologies used within the department would be an advantage. Experience of lone working with Blood Transfusion and Haematology is essential.

You will be HCPC Registered with knowledge and experience required for this role, be able to work as part of a team, work under pressure and meet deadlines.
