Full Job Description

As a Network Engineer here at toob, you'll play a pivotal role in contributing to the ongoing design, deployment, and management of all network elements, capacity, and traffic management necessary for the delivery of toob's FTTH Internet Service. This a predominately a Portsmouth HQ office and field-based role requiring travel with some flexibility for home working.,

  • Plan and support the deployment and configuration of a range of layer 2 and 3 network elements: routers, switches, CGNAT, firewalls/VPNs, and OLT's

  • Work on-site at datacentre and PoP locations when necessary

  • Performance of traffic management and configuration of peering & transit connections

  • Monitoring of network performance, identification of deficiencies or capacity shortfalls, implementation of corrective actions. Areas to be monitored include, but not limited to, internet transit and peering links, backhaul links and network elements

  • Diagnosis and resolution of network faults, including escalations from our helpdesk and second line teams. Collaboration with 3rd party and vendor technical support where necessary

  • Perform in-life management of network elements including hardware and software upgrades, security configuration and patching, and technology refresh

  • Use knowledge of existing and upcoming network technologies to identify, recommend, and deploy technology upgrades to meet the emerging demands of ultra-fast broadband services

  • Create and maintain documentation of network design (HLD / LLD), configurations, and operational best practices

  • Provide operational assistance to all areas of Technology.

    Ideally you will be an experienced Juniper user and will hold JNCIS-ENT and/or JNCIS SP certification(s), A minimum of 5 years' network engineering experience within a service provider environment (preferably Tier1/2 ISP)

  • Extensive experience managing Juniper devices and command line

  • Detailed knowledge of:


  • Subscriber management in an ISP environment/ IPv4 and IPv6/Routing protocols (internal and external)/EVPN/Both MPLS and VXLAN/ CGNAT/DHCP and DNS
  • Proven experience with L2 / L3 network tools, monitoring, and troubleshooting techniques on large IPv4 and IPv6 networks

  • Operational knowledge and experience with GPON networks

  • Proven experience monitoring network performance and contributing to remedial plans addressing performance shortfalls

  • Ability to resolve complex problems requiring innovative solutions and out-of-the-box thinking

  • Demonstrable working knowledge of Network Management Systems

  • Strong experience with network security principles and approaches

  • Have the right to work in the UK without restriction

  • Full UK Driving Licence and access to own vehicle (travel mileage to site covered by expenses)


  • Technical/ Professional qualifications:
  • Juniper experience is essential with JNCIS-SP and /or JNCIS-ENT level certification

  • Working knowledge of FTTH access platforms, specifically OLT.

    Up to £55k (Dependent on experience)
