Full Job Description

The North of England Pathology & Screening Education Centre is looking for an experienced healthcare professional to design, manage and contribute to the training of the cervical sample taker training programme of learning.

The successful candidate will manage course provision in relation to cervical sample taker education, monitor financial issues in association with the centres Business Manager and manage day to day issues relating to the delivery of course activity.

There will also be some requirement to manage the duties of training centre staff in relation to cervical sample taker training activity in association with the Training Centre Manager and deputise for the Training Centre Manager where appropriate and when necessary.

Supporting the North of England Pathology and Screening Education Centre to provide a full and comprehensive cervical sample taker training programme of learning across a large geographic landscape around the UK. Managing programmes of learning to ensure appropriately accredited training and support can be delivered to meet the learning needs of the existing and future NHS Cervical Cancer Screening sample taking workforce.

The NEPSEC Team is a small but dedicated team of Administrators, Business/Training Managers, and appropriate directorship. We are located off hospital trust premises in a bespoke training facility on the outskirts of Wakefield where it is central to the overall customer base, which stretches the length and breadth of the North of England.

The centre also extends its footprint for Cervical Sample Taker Training across the North West and Cumbria, Yorkshire & The Humber, East Midlands, West Midlands, Norfolk & Norwich and the South Coast regions.

The centres own facilities consist of a main administration office and a number of training rooms, including the largest specialist microscopy teaching suite in England and a multi-head microscope teaching room. We have a sister site based at Manchester Royal Infirmary, with an office, a smaller microscope training suite and a seminar room.

The facility is located just off the M1 motorway corridor and within easy reach of Ossett Town and Wakefield City Centre.

The responsibilities will include but are not limited to;

Manage course provision and invitation of the relevant external contributors in relation to cervical sample taker education.

Plan and prepare and at times deliver training programmes appropriate for registered nurses, doctors, midwives, physician associates, paramedics and nursing associates intending to train in the area of cervical sample taking including those requiring introductory courses and also mentorship briefings. This includes;

Leading/ advising on course flyers are appropriate and advertisements to reflect actual course programmes and sourcing appropriate external contributors in coordination with the Administration Team.

Leading on ensuring that the course content remains appropriate and meets the required guidance and requirements of the commissioning bodies.

Working under the direction of the Training Centre Manager to oversee the educational content of the training provided by all external contributors to ensure a standard approach to advice and course content.

Design, manage and contribute to training courses & the programme of learning to include course delivery with respect to Cervical Screening Sample Taker Training both on and off site.

Manage day to day issues relating to delivery and support of cervical sample taker course activity

Manage the duties and of the Training Centre staff in relation to cervical sample taker course activity in association with the Training Centre Manager

Monitor financial issues in association with the Training Centre Business Manager

Deputise for the Training Centre Manager when necessary.

Working with the Administration Team to ensure that external contributors have access to:

appropriate information prior to a training session including suitable training equipment, such as interactive voting, video and other digital learning solutions.

appropriate training documents in advance of the training sessions.

well-structured and applicable course programme within the agreed timelines.

Attend training sessions and perform front-of-house duties; introducing speakers, liaising with delegates and contributing to formal and informal discussions.

Provide cover for external contributors and deliver lectures, practical sessions, advice and guidance to course participants or nominated mentors attending training or briefing sessions.

Work with the NEPSEC Business Analyst to undertake critical evaluation and analysis of all training sessions and provide tutors/external contributors with informative and useful feedback.

Make suggestions for suitable changes, additions or omissions for the training programme based on the findings of critical evaluations and analysis of the training sessions.

Liaise with NHSEI, SQAS, Screening & Immunisations Teams, ICBs, Universities, GP Training Hubs and Vocational Training Scheme (VTS) Managers regarding course content and frequency.

Provide support and advice for trainees before, during and after training.

Provide an escalation process for trainees who are experiencing problems or who have identified additional learning needs.

Maintain appropriate confidentiality in accordance with Section 251 of the NHS Act 2006 and other legislation by not discussing or revealing trainee performance and results to parties without a legitimate interest.

Manage communications, appeals and complaints about training programmes appropriately and holding difficult conversations sensitively, escalating to the NEPSEC training centre management team if necessary.

Attend the BSCCP Congress once every two years and/or other suitable scientific meetings deemed appropriate by the training centre management team, to promote cervical sample taker training programmes.

Attend and lead on cervical sample taker training matters at any relevant Annual Planning Meetings, Training Officers Meetings or other appropriate external groups e.g. Regional QA Groups.

Contribute to Training Centre Activity Reports as required.

Work with the NEPSEC Management Team to contribute to the preparation and validation of appropriate working documents, such as Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions used by the wider NEPSEC Team.
