Full Job Description

Due to company expansion and our successful tender programme, we are recruiting to strengthen our experienced and ever developing team at our site here in Sandbach.

Here at Wilker we are one of the leading coachbuilders of emergency service vehicles mainly working on van chassis to design, develop and construct Ambulances and support vehicles that may be required. You will get the opportunity to work on new vehicles and cars including working with the latest EV vehicles.

We work very closely with our clients to ensure that they not only get a vehicle that they need but a vehicle that they want and to keep us at the cutting edge of development within our sector.

The Mechanical Design Engineering Role is a pivotal position within the Pre- Production function of the Wilker Group. The successful candidate must be proficient in the Solid Works 3D drawing package

As a member of the Vehicle Conversion Production team, the success of role depends on having good teamwork, in particular with the other areas of the company involved in Pre-production and production (Purchasing, Electrical, Planning, etc.)

It will be necessary for the successful candidate to come up to speed with the various standards which we carry out our conversions to (for example CEN 1789 2010, EWVTA)

Responsible for: Mountable Box body design for Ambulance Build (Solid Works design Package), Testing and Certification, Build Specification Development and Change Control.

Responsible to: Head of Operations,

  • Ambulance Build (Box Body & Van Conversions) and other bespoke Conversions using Solid Works design package).

  • Preparation of compliance information and drawings for all Testing, Certification and Regulatory Compliance.

  • Preparation of 'Fabricated' parts drawings and liaison with suppliers.

  • Preparation of Workshop Build Specification from Customer Specification including 2D/3D Drawings :

  • Managing of Change Control.

  • Preparation of shop floor Work Instructions.

  • Preparation of As-Built Drawings and Technical/Service Manuals on completion of project.

  • Preparation of Tender Drawings.

  • Attending meetings with Customer and updating drawings & specifications from matters discussed:

  • Data compilation and analytical work using Excel spreadsheets.

  • Determination of load balance on finished vehicles.

  • Preparation of IVA applications and other regulatory paperwork.

  • Preparation of working drawings for cabinet fabrication.

  • Project assignments as required

    Experienced in Solid Works, Autodesk Inventor (3D CAD) or similar.

  • Experience of project management and an ability to coordinate multiple projects and priorities is essential

  • Ability to work in a high pressure team environment providing support and flexibility to other team members is essential

  • High level of competence in Microsoft Office - Excel, Word, Power-point.

  • A high level of attention to detail required.

  • Conversant in email and attachment of data/photos etc.

  • Self-motivated, well organised and good communicator.

  • Ability to adapt quickly to new engineering environment and its regulatory requirements
