Full Job Description

We're looking for individuals who can help us further grow our ESG Assurance business. Our objective is to serve in the public interest and deliver quality assurance over ESG information, playing our part in improving the overall quality of UK financial and corporate reporting. The role will include:

  • Being a member of the ESG Assurance management team and contributing to team development and strategic direction by playing a significant role on our targeting for ESG Assurance, identifying new opportunities and developing relationships, including building a strong internal network with Lead Audit and Assurance Partners.

  • Providing assurance services to clients relating to ESG disclosures (such as the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures - "TCFD" and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive "CSRD"), ESG metrics (everything from greenhouse gas emissions and water usage to recycling volumes and health and safety incident data), and sustainability-linked finance (e.g. green bonds).

  • Providing specialist support to audit teams who must now consider climate and sustainability risks in the audit, including the impact on the income statement and balance sheet, and the consistency of reporting in Annual Reports and Accounts.

  • Assisting clients with increasing their understanding of ESG frameworks and reporting requirements relevant to their business decisions, including which disclosures to focus on, managing related data, establishing controls, performing analysis, risk management and modelling.

  • Leading and managing engagements with clients, including managing stakeholders, quality and risk, deliverables and a team.

  • Engaging with senior client contacts and building long-term relationships to be regarded as a trusted assurance provider, with quality assurance being at the core of our proposition.

  • Collaborating with colleagues across multi-disciplinary service lines to deliver ESG advisory engagements to some of our largest clients.

  • Keeping up to date with market developments, best practices and developing offerings that can support growth of the business.

  • Working in a diverse team and promoting an inclusive culture where colleagues are recognised for their contribution.

To qualify for this opportunity, you must have the following experience:

  • Significant experience of providing robust, accurate and comparable audit and/or assurance, including a detailed understanding of recognised assurance standards such as ISAs or ISAE 3000, and concepts such as materiality, risk assessment and understanding internal control.

  • An understanding of the role of assurance, including the different types of services that can be provided (e.g. limited vs reasonable assurance) and an awareness of specific challenges in the ESG assurance market (e.g. 'greenwashing').

  • Understanding of reporting processes and experience of testing internal controls and the completeness and accuracy of data.

  • A commitment to quality and demonstrable experience of applying professional scepticism, independence and effective risk management.

  • Project management experience with a proven ability to meet client deadlines, across a portfolio of engagements.

  • A passion for ESG and a desire to learn about a range of ESG topics.

  • Experience of motivating and developing high performing diverse teams.

  • Analytical and problem solving capabilities, with the willingness to be hands-on and pay attention to detail.

  • Demonstrable experience of building great client relationships and internal and external networks.

  • An ability to think creatively, generate innovative ideas, challenge the status quo and deliver change.

Our ESG Assurance practice encompasses specialist subject matter experts and skilled assurance professionals. We combine these to provide a specialist team delivering ESG Assurance services to those charged with governance, serving the public interest.

  • Working in Assurance means you will have an opportunity to work alongside leading experts, as we help build and enhance trust between businesses and the public, by responding to emerging issues and protecting the public interest. Providing assurance to help businesses become more resilient, agile and better prepared for the future. To be resilient, businesses must be ready to respond to current and future challenges and opportunities, of which ESG is a driving force. Businesses are increasingly being required to be more transparent with their reporting, to drive trust and confidence in the market, and protect the wider public interest, and with the reporting requirements on the horizon, this is only going to step up.

Assurance builds, maintains and develops confidence. We provide independent assurance by assessing the risks and underlying processes, providing conclusions as to which risks are being managed and mitigated in line with the business' appetite for risk. Deloitte's assurance offerings help those charged with governance to understand their business and build trust amongst key stakeholders and regulators.
