Full Job Description

As a Lead Plain Film Radiographer, you will assume primary responsibility for overseeing the Plain Film X-ray service. This role involves managing staff rotas, providing professional support, and contributing to the improvement of patient care within professional, legal, and policy standards. Additionally, you will be responsible for developing departmental protocols and procedures, ensuring compliance with radiation regulations and standards, and maintaining a consistently high standard of radiographic imaging.

Responsibilities:

Assume primary responsibility for overseeing the Plain Film X-ray service.

The post holder will act as a HCPC Registered Radiographer and will participate in the provision of multi-modality imaging services to a diversity of patient presentations in a range of clinical environments.

Manage staff rotas, including personal development, performance appraisals, and disciplinary actions.

Monitor and record sickness levels among staff.

Provide professional support and contribute to improving patient care within professional, legal, and policy standards.

Develop departmental protocols and procedures, introducing new ones as needed based on audit findings.

Provide guidance and troubleshoot clinical and technical issues as they arise.

Oversee all governance processes related to the X-ray service, ensuring compliance with radiation regulations and standards.

About You:

- The post holder will provide an excellent standard of radiographic imaging, technique, and patient positioning to deliver a high quality of patient care.

- You will work to a consistently high standard and ensure radiation doses are kept to a minimum using the ALARP principle and dose reduction factors.

- The post holder will assess and justify referrals under IRR17, IR(ME)R 2017, following practitioner guidelines. Includes the assessment of complex and/or acute cases.

- You will make autonomous decisions regarding the appropriateness of examinations as an aid to clinical diagnosis.

- You will follow established examination protocols and liaise, as required, with Consultant Radiologists regarding optimum technique.

- The post holder will use Electronic Patient Records (EPR) and the Radiology Information System (RIS) for patient registration, ordering and scheduling. They will be responsible for ensuring accurate patient records, including radiation dose and exposure factors.

- You will use the Picture Archive & Communication System (PACS) to ensure optimum image quality.

You will participate in the Quality Assurance equipment testing programme.

HCPC Registration with the Health & Care Professions Council

- BSc Degree in Radiography or equivalent radiographic qualification, DCR(R)

- Evidence of current Continuing Professional Development activity

Desirable

- Post Graduate Diploma or equivalent postgraduate experience
