Full Job Description

This is a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to work within our hospital safeguarding team for an initial secondment of 12-months.

With our friendly support and mentoring, you will draw and build on your previous safeguarding knowledge and skills to work with mothers, their families and other agencies.

The Named Midwife for Safeguarding provides expert knowledge and understanding women and birthing people. They will support staff to identify, assess, treat and manage vulnerabilities within women and their families.

They will contribute to the development and delivery of Safeguarding training to all members of the multidisciplinary teams sometimes in collaboration with the wider Trust.

You will be fully supported to develop into the role so whilst previous experience working within a safeguarding team would be desirable, it is not essential.

You will be based at the Wexham Park Hospital site.

PROFESSIONAL DUTIES:

Being a source of advice and expertise on child protection matters to all staff at the point of need.

  • To promote good practice and effective communication within and between trusts and all agencies on all matters relating to the safeguarding and protection of children.

  • Develop, monitor and review health service specifications and standards for child protection practice

  • Ensuring there are effective systems of child protection audit to monitor the application of agreed child protection standards.

  • To fulfil the role of the midwife as defined by the Midwives Rules, the Code of Conduct and the World Health Organisation

  • Participate in the development of midwifery practice and research in specialist area in line with the Trust strategy and in collaboration with other team members.

  • Providing direct client care including health education and counselling as required.

  • To practise in any area of the service as necessary according to the needs of the service

  • Take part in annual appraisal of staff and participate in the recruitment and selection process

  • Adhere to all Trust policies and protocols

  • Effective and pro-active management of the area of responsibility

  • Knowledge of the Professional Midwifery Advocate role
