Following approval of our 12mppa planning application, Bristol Airport has an unprecedented period of change ahead with capital investment of £400m+ across the next five years and we need people to deliver this change. Our Engineering team is growing, and we're looking for a Lead Facilities Operative to join us on this exciting journey.

You'll supervise the maintenance of facilities and compliance across the airport infrastructure, through regular maintenance, monitoring and cleaning of critical assets, to ensure the highest standards are maintained. In addition, you'll ensure accurate records are kept whilst the airport development continues, capturing new and altered assets as they develop.

This role would suit an experienced professional in plumbing or mechanics with an enthusiastic and passionate approach to maintaining and improving high standards and a proven track record in line management.

The role will be 37 hours per week, on a two-week rolling rota. Week one would be from 7am-3pm with week two, 9:30am - 5:30pm.,

  • Undertake planned preventative maintenance as prescribed within the airport maintenance systems.

  • Schedule and manage own workload and the workload of the Facilities Operative.

  • Engage, arrange and coordinate 3rd party maintenance providers site attendance, ensuring e-permits and passes are in place. Overseeing reactive and PPM works where necessary, providing support where required.

  • Support with monthly reporting of contractor and in house activities for management review and obtain quotes for 3rd party works, raising purchase orders and goods receipting via our finance systems.

  • Oversee HVAC maintenance, ensuring records are maintained and the F-gas register is updated at all times.

  • Carry out weekly plant / boiler room inspections and housekeeping audits, tidying and cleaning where required to maintain high standards. Removing and recycling waste to designated areas.

  • Undertake regular weekly and monthly cold water storage tank inspections, ensuring compliance and records are maintained. Assist with arranging and delivery of annual water tank cleaning and disinfections.

  • Carry out emergency lighting monthly tests via test keys or software, maintaining records.

  • Carry out minor reactive works across water, heating, and cooling systems.

  • Provide first line repairs to general airport facilities including passenger areas, toilets, back of house areas and car park areas.

  • Carry out general housekeeping activities and basic plumbing tasks including tap replacement, works on toilets and flushes.

  • Conduct monthly system flow checks across the terminal buildings sprinkler system, maintaining records and escalating any issues.

  • Escort specialist subcontractors whilst they are working airside across the airport, ensuring security protocols are maintained at all times.

  • Assist the wider engineering team with duties as required, whilst maintaining suitable records of activities utilising the computer-based maintenance system.

    Enthusiastic and committed approach with a willingness to maintain and improve standards.

  • Experience and prior knowledge of water systems and awareness of risks of Legionella in hot and cold water systems.

  • Flexible and able to meet the demands of working within a 24/7 operation.

  • Tenacious, resilient, and positive nature, with a pragmatic approach to problem solving.


  • Desirable
  • Recognised qualification in a suitable discipline (plumbing or mechanical)

  • Experience with Microsoft Office and computer-based maintenance tools.
