Full Job Description

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and efficient Lead Clinical Audit and Effectiveness Co-ordinator to join the Clinical Audit and Effectiveness Team at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The Clinical Audit and Effectiveness Team supports the development, implementation and monitoring of programmes of local and national clinical audit and clinical effectiveness throughout the Trust to benefit patient care, safety, and experience., The post holder will have site responsibilities for supporting improvement in the delivery of quality care, by developing the Clinical Effectiveness and Clinical Audit agenda.

They will co-ordinate the dissemination, implementation, and monitoring of best practice guidance, proactively reaching out and collaborating with local teams and other healthcare organisations to support the completion of baseline assessments and associated Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Timely (SMART) improvement plans.

In addition, the post holder will manage a small group of staff, providing day-to-day line management, supporting with training and development needs, and ensuring regular 1-1s and appraisals are undertaken in line with Trust policy., The Trust is committed to promoting a healthy work-life balance and achieve fair, equitable and consistent practice. Trust policy requires that the cost of submitting & processing the successful applicant/s DBS application be recovered via salary deduction following start in post. The amount of £18+£5 (standard disclosure) or £38+£5 (enhanced disclosure) will be deducted from salary, in manageable monthly instalments for up to 3 months following commencement of employment. Bank posts require upfront payment.

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent

  • Evidence of further learning in Quality Management Systems

  • Evidence of continuing professional development to support the delivery of quality governance within a healthcare setting, Significant experience of working in a Clinical Audit and Effectiveness Team, ideally within a healthcare setting

  • Experience of delivering clinical audit and effectiveness objectives

  • Experience of effective negotiation and influencing skills to drive change and performance

  • Experience of advising and liaising with staff at all levels of an organisation

  • Experience of project management

  • Previous experience of managing staff, including workload allocation, performance management, appraisal, and objective setting, High level knowledge of national requirements and best practice in relation to the management of the clinical audit and effectiveness agenda

  • Knowledge of the Trust Quality Governance Framework and wider clinical governance agenda

  • Knowledge of the role and purpose of external reviews and associated best practice

  • Knowledge of the NHS and current issues/regulations in healthcare, particularly related to the clinical audit and effectiveness agenda


  • Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge of quality improvement science, Excellent communication, (written and verbal) presentation and report writing skills

  • Highly developed, data analysis and interpretation of information skills

  • Highly developed digital skills, including use of Microsoft 365 and associated software, virtual meeting rooms and infographics

  • Ability to make and implement decisions

  • Ability to create an environment of psychological safety, to support and motivate individuals and teams


  • Desirable criteria

  • Coaching skills, including appreciative enquiry, listening and constructive challenge, Ability to travel between sites to attend meetings as required

    Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was created on 1 October 2019 following the merger of two adult acute Trusts, Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust.
