Full Job Description

Alex Stewart International are currently looking for a Laboratory Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will perform routine tasks such as preparation of samples, weighing of samples, use instrumentation for analysis and assisting the Chemists as and when required throughout the laboratory., 1. Preparation and weighing of samples of various commodities based on method requirements for analysis.

2. Carry out routine tasks accurately within QA guidelines in line with ISO 17025:2017 standard.

3. Perform basic instrument maintenance and operation.

4. Function as an integral part of the laboratory team.

5. Promote good awareness of Health and Safety regulations relating to Laboratory environment.

6. Inform Laboratory Management of issues that may affect Quality or Turn-around Time of samples.

7. Follow in house techniques as trained.

8. Quality Control; process samples through the laboratory within company guidelines and working to ISO 17025:2017 standards.

9. Perform calculations as required when conducting analytical preparations.

10. Routinely use standard laboratory equipment such as balances for sample weighing.

11. Perform housekeeping duties and calibrating equipment as required by the Departmental Manager.

12. Use IT for the recording of data and sample tracking within the laboratory.

13. Organise and plan daily workloads ensuring all tasks and analyses are performed within the stated Turn Around Time (TAT).

14. Safe handling of chemicals and awareness of laboratory hazards.

15. Develop knowledge of metals and minerals qualities.

16. To store samples in accordance with the systems in place.

17. Undertake other responsibilities as required by senior chemists.

18. Ensure that a health & safety culture and protocol is adhered to.

19. To comply with Company policies and procedures.

  • Numerate, literate and computer literature

  • High standard of dexterity.

  • Good judgement and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to understand instruction and implementation.

  • Awareness to detail.

  • A team player respectful and aware of the need for understanding of interacting and communicating with colleagues.

  • Working knowledge of laboratory practices., Practical laboratory skills.

  • HND/HNC, BTEC or NVQ equivalent in a scientific subject

  • Understanding and proficiency with Laboratory IT systems.

  • Broad knowledge of quality services and the factors involved in delivering a quality service to ISO 17025:2017 standards.

  • Good awareness of Health and Safety regulations relating to laboratory hazards.

  • Awareness of production processes.

  • Experience of working in an industrial laboratory.

  • Experience of working to deadlines.

  • Experienced in working within a team-focused environment.

  • Experience of mentoring and training colleagues.
