Full Job Description

The main duties and responsibilities of the role will include assistance with -

  • Legal research


  • Organising and taking responsibility for incoming business


  • Preparing advice and protection strategies (UK and worldwide)


  • Conducting searches (local and global)


  • Advising on absolute and relative grounds


  • Drafting technical specifications


  • Filing trade mark and design applications locally and internationally


  • Advising on and responding to examination reports at both local and international level


  • General formalities (e.g. recordals of licences, assignments, changes of client details)


  • Assistance with watching and monitoring services


  • Corresponding with local / foreign attorneys and Counsel


  • Assisting the dispute and litigation department in preparing advice and evidence bundles for contentious matters


  • Compiling reports on trade mark issues locally and in foreign jurisdictions

    The firm requires a diligent, hard-working, and motivated individual to join the strategy team and assist in dealing with the advising, filing, prosecution, enforcement, and monitoring of our client's intellectual property rights.

  • Required Education, Skills and Qualifications

  • Upper second class Bachelor's degree with trade marks / IP module (minimum requirement);


  • LL.M in intellectual property, inc. trade marks (preferable but not essential)


  • A good understanding of how businesses operate and extensive commercial awareness;


  • Experience working in IP and trade marks (preferable but not essential);


  • Ability to work independently with exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail;


  • Ability to prioritise tasks;


  • Excellent communication skills;


  • Excellent IT skills and good knowledge of MS Office applications, Outlook, Excel, and Word;


  • Excellent project and time management skills;


  • Ability to use initiative when carrying out duties and to work under pressure handling heavy workload;


  • Strong communication skills [written and oral] and the ability to speak to our clients on the telephone.
