Full Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Junior Construction Counsel to join our legal team, offering expert advice on UK construction contracts and occasionally assisting with projects outside the UK. This is a permanent position based either at our Head Office in Poole or Technical Hub within Thorpe Park.

As Junior Construction Counsel, you will provide strategic legal advice on UK development projects, including new attractions, hotels, and IP collaborations, ensuring their success from inception to completion. You will manage sub-£1m contract reviews, develop and maintain construction contract templates, and support various Merlin divisions with high-profile construction projects. Your role involves championing good legal practices, facilitating risk-based decisions, and offering practical solutions to legal challenges.

Additionally, you will collaborate closely with the Merlin Magic Making Division, delivering live project support and coordinating with external legal counsel when necessary. You will also provide legal training to stakeholders, assist in dispute resolution, and participate in strategic initiatives to enhance efficiency across Merlin's legal function. Your efforts will protect Merlin from financial and reputational risks while driving excellence in project delivery.

  • PQE as a Junior construction solicitor with excellent academics.

  • Experience in non-contentious construction law; contentious experience is a plus.

  • Ability to manage complex matters and align them with Merlin's risk profile.

  • Background in a leading law firm or large corporate environment.

  • Strong commercial awareness and innovative problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency with standard and bespoke contracts.

  • Strong relationship-building skills and a confident, flexible attitude.

  • Excellent organisational, analytical, and communication skills.

  • Proficient IT skills and a willingness to travel within the UK to construction sites.

We're growing fast and alongside a fun and friendly environment, we offer a fabulous package and amazing prospects - ideal if you're already fantastic and can quickly become even better (our magic can help here). Benefits include Pension, Life Assurance, discretionary company bonus, 25 days' holiday and, of course, a Merlin Magic Pass which gives you and your friends and family free admission to all of our attractions worldwide, as well as 25% discount in our retail shops and restaurants and 40% discount on LEGO.
