Full Job Description

Although the Group Internal Communications team might support different parts of the business, we're all working for one company and all the work we do in internal communications needs to reflect that.

That's where you come in.

The horizontal team is a team that delivers communications that go across the Business unit (rather than into specific teams within Business). The means working on communications that drive advocacy across all areas of Business via:

  • Big campaigns or cross-Business communications that show how we're making progress against our strategy with engaging content - whether it's about the employee experience, or a brand launch

  • Business wide events, like 'Business Live' which we use to share our strategy and get colleagues fired up about what's ahead

  • The upkeep of Business wide channels and the measurement of their efficacy

  • What you'll be doing:
  • Pulling together the right story that shows how we're delivering on areas of our strategy - with proof points from BT Group and Business.

  • Explaining it to everyone in Business in a simple, understandable way and making sure those across wider BT Group know what we mean when we say that BT Means Business.

  • Maintaining a high-level calendar of messaging and campaigns for the year and making sure that's suitable for a global audience

  • Identifying and lifting up brilliant stories about our colleagues, about customer wins, along with proof points to show that we're making progress on our transformation agenda, to help colleagues celebrate the things we're doing brilliantly and take inspiration from them

  • Working closely with our colleagues in Group internal communications and Group HR to deliver the Business flavour of Group-wide initiatives that either a) have an impact on our colleagues, or b) help them to advocate for BT.

  • Working closely with our HR colleagues to develop and deliver communications plans that support the culture shift we're trying to inspire in Business, and aligned to the Group approach - tackling areas such as learning and development, diversity and inclusion, wellbeing and early careers.

  • Working with business stakeholders to help them demonstrate how we're unlocking the potential of our assets and capabilities to deliver for our customers, within our Business and BT Means Business narrative.

  • Working with our internal comms sales and service business partners, and marketing and sales teams, to develop and deliver communications plans for exciting brand launches and making imaginative use of our internal channels.

  • Measuring the effectiveness of our communications and driving for continuous improvement.

  • Managing and developing our internal comms channels (including our weekly Business newsletter and Workplace group) to make them the best that they can be.

  • Supporting the delivery of internal engagement events, including our annual Business Live conference and colleague roadshows

You're creative and willing to fight the good fight to help us keep communication simple

  • Ideally 3-5 years of experience in a similar comms manager role

  • Ability to 'join the dots' on the overall impact of change across the business to inform your communication

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrable understanding of campaign planning for large audiences, using multiple channels and vehicles to reach the right people, at the right time, within budget

  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects at any one time

  • While you'll be comfortable following the direction set by the Senior Internal Comms Manager, you'll always be on the lookout to try new things and bring fresh ideas to the table in pursuit of raising the quality of our communications

  • Ability to work independently on high profile sensitive projects and deliver on time

  • You're not afraid to challenge when you disagree with something but you're able to do so constructively

  • Ability to break down complicated, technical and corporate speak into interesting and engaging communications

  • Excellent stakeholder management, at all levels, especially tricky ones (there might be a few…)

  • Demonstrable understanding of BT and passion for the brand

BT is part of BT Group, along with EE, Openreach, and Plusnet.

  • Millions of people rely on us every day to help them live their lives, power their businesses, and keep their public services running. We connect friends to family, clients to colleagues, people to possibilities. We keep the wheels of business spinning, and the emergency services responding.

We value diversity and celebrate difference. 'We embed diversity and inclusion into everything that we do. It's fundamental to our purpose: we connect for good.'

We all stick to the same values: Personal, Simple, and Brilliant. From day one, you'll get stuck in to tough challenges, pitch in with ideas, make things happen. But you won't be alone: we'll be there with help and support, learning and development.

This is your chance to make a real difference to the world: to be part of the digital transformation of countless lives and businesses. Grab it.
