Full Job Description

To provide support to the Head of ERM on the ensuring appropriate oversight and challenge of underwriting risk across Apollo Syndicate Management Limited (ASML) and its managed syndicates. This role will work closely with the Financial Risk Manager, Operational Risk Manager and the Specialist Risk Consultant to ensure there is a holistic view of risk. This role will ensure that there is a consistent, accurate and proportional evaluation of underwriting risk.

What you'll do:

  • Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) to provide oversight and challenge on the insurance risks across ASML and its managed syndicates.

  • Provide challenge to the appropriateness of the risk and control environments for Underwriting, Delegated Authority, Reinsurance and Claims.

  • Assist the Underwriting function with benchmarking and adherence to the Lloyd's Principles of doing business.

  • Provide challenge on the implementation and roll out of new underwriting control frameworks.

  • Provide support from and insurance risk perspective to the capital team as part of the annual capital setting process.

  • Support the Underwriting Governance Team on the enhancement of the current governance framework.

  • Support the Underwriting function on new business initiatives and strategic projects by providing challenge and insight.

  • Co-ordinate, monitor and report on the framework of Key Risk indicators.

  • Assist the first line in investigating risk events that originate or impact the underwriting function.

  • Provide training and guidance on the role of ERM.

  • Facilitate the identification and reporting of underwriting emerging risks with impact analysis.

  • Identify and perform thematic Underwriting risk reviews.

  • Prepare regular and ad-hoc risk and control analysis, Risk MI reports and dashboards for Executive management, 1st line committees and Board-level Committees.

    Ability to network and maintain relationships within the company (in a hybrid working environment).

  • Collaborative, inquisitive and clear communicator across all levels of the business.

  • Strong risk management knowledge (risk registers, risk rating, etc).

  • Experienced and knowledgeable on underwriting risk.

  • Experience working in a Lloyd's Managing Agency.

  • Technical underwriting and quantitative portfolio analysis experience and ability to manage cross class risk aggregation.

  • Written skills to support the syndicate ORSA reports production.

  • Lloyd's governance experience (Min Standards, Principles Oversight framework).

  • Experience of working in a Group or multi-syndicate structure.
