Full Job Description

We are recruiting for a Tax Analyst within our Group Tax Function. Due to the agile nature of the team, the role holder will be well positioned to make a difference within the Investment Management side of the business.

The role is compliance focussed and will include coordination of multiple stakeholders in the end-to-end VAT compliance process to meet VAT reporting deadlines and carrying out technical reviews of VAT reporting information including revenue and expense analysis. The role will also involve supporting the wider Indirect Tax team to provide LGIM Real Assets with relevant policy and legislative updates, advice and guidance to support accurate VAT reporting.

What you'll be doing:

  • You will review VAT transactional data prepared by third party stakeholders for accuracy and completeness.

  • You will manage compliance reporting timelines and deliverables across multiple stakeholders, internal and external to L&G, to allow timely and accurate submission of VAT returns.

  • You will be assisting in the preparation of communications to HMRC in relation to pre-cred checks and other VAT queries, including collation and review of relevant underlying data and reports.

  • You will liaise with business areas, third parties, consultants and HMRC to understand, communicate and resolve indirect tax issues relevant to the Real Assets business.

  • You will support more senior members of the indirect tax team in identifying and implementing improvements to the Real Assets VAT reporting and compliance process.

  • With support from more senior members of the indirect tax team, prepare and submit to HMRC Partial Exemption Special Method proposals, and manage implementation of accurate VAT reporting with key stakeholders for newly established partially exempt businesses within the Real Assets business.

  • You will build and maintain positive business partnering relationships.

  • You will build and maintain the tax technical knowledge required to deliver the principal accountabilities of the role.

    Accountancy qualification desirable, or with sufficient experience of indirect tax to maintain up-to-date professional knowledge.

  • Working knowledge of UK VAT legislation and policy to the extent that they apply to the Real Assets business area.

  • Understanding of VAT compliance for partially exempt businesses.

  • Some knowledge of property development and property rental business operations and the relevance to Legal & General's strategy.

  • Some knowledge of the general business and financial services environment and regulatory business requirements and its impact on Legal & General's strategy.

  • Sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, Outlook and Powerpoint.

  • Ability to develop commercial awareness and practical knowledge of the LGIM Real Assets business and how that interrelates with legal entities and divisions across the wider L&G Group.

  • Ability to build a working knowledge of the Group's policies and procedures including the Group's risk management framework.

  • Ability to listen to others and work to understand their viewpoint.

  • Experience in preparing clear and concise written or verbal reports that are suitable for their audience.

  • Ability to assimilate complex information, identifies key issues, implications and consequences.

  • Ability to review for trends, anticipate problems/omissions and consider potential ways to mitigate them.

  • Ability to build and develop strong relationships with staff, peers and other contacts within the business and externally.
