Full Job Description

You'll take on a wide range of casework helping people with support needs navigate the housing system. This will include working with residents who approach our outreach surgeries and online platforms in different community settings. Although your focus will be on housing and homelessness prevention, you will carry out a vital triage process and may often refer and signpost people to other services. You can therefore expect to have close working relationships with a wide variety of organisations and agencies including children's centres, mental health services and doctor's surgeries. You'll aim to offer advice, support and solutions to vulnerable people before housing issues become critical. Show us your passion for preventing homelessness and we'll support you with a range of training opportunities in housing law, mental health and trauma-informed working practices.

We'll look to you to provide a flexible person-centred approach, so exceptional communication skills are essential, including active listening and advocacy. You're likely to have experience of working directly with vulnerable people who may have complex support needs and who may be at risk of homelessness or are homeless. Some knowledge of housing, homelessness and welfare systems is important, along with a good understanding of trauma and mental health and the role they play in housing issues., We are a Disability Confident Employer - committed to ensuring that our recruitment and selection process is inclusive and accessible.

We engage our staff with a variety of learning types including face-to-face and virtual learning because we want to ensure our staff understand our values and behaviours, grow their skills and develop their careers.

This post is covered by the Fluency Duty, as outlined in the Code of Practice on the English language requirements for public sector workers.

Providing vital signposts to help with housing and other issues

In Kensington and Chelsea, we put local people at the heart of decision-making, working in partnership with them to provide quality services that are responsive, effective and efficient.

We have an excellent track-record in addressing homelessness but, with continuing pressure on housing across the borough, a more holistic and proactive approach is needed that is informed by health and wellbeing issues, including trauma awareness. We're not only committed to reducing the number of homeless people and people living in temporary accommodation; we want to put residents first and build a homeless service that is a beacon of positive customer service.

In return, you can look forward to a package that includes a competitive salary, a high-quality pension scheme and generous annual leave plus bank holidays.
