Full Job Description

To provide a wide range of clinical and administrative support to the nursing team.

The Health Care Assistant will work under the direction and supervision of the Practice Nurses and/or GPs to provide care for the Practice Population both in the surgery setting and in patients own homes and care/nursing home settings.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Support:

Will undertake the following:

Venepuncture; Patients health checks; BP recordings; Urinalysis; Peak flow measurements; Height and weight measurements; Ear Syringing; ECG recordings; Obtaining blood sugar readings; Collection of specimens as required; Assisting GPs and Practice Nurses with clinical procedures; Chaperoning; Assisting with minor surgery as requested by GPs or Practice Nurses; Care of minor wounds and application of basic dressings; Removal of sutures/clips; Vaccinations under a PSD; Diabetic Healthcare checks within the surgery, patients own homes and Care home/nursing homes

Administrative support:

Undertake basic administrative activities including:

Answering the telephone, receiving and transmitting messages; Form filing; Arrange patients appointments as necessary; Liaise with other health care professionals; Electronic patient record keeping; Stocking of rooms as necessary; Ordering of treatment room equipment and consumables as necessary, Westgate Practice mission is to be an outstanding general practice by delivering high quality care to all our patients, in a timely way and in an environment that meets the individual needs of our patients and staff., To be caring and compassionate, upholding the dignity and maintaining the confidentiality of each patient receiving care.
