"Rhyl High is more than a school; it's a community and a family"

  • Our school is based in Rhyl on The North Wales Coast. Our community includes areas 1 and 2 in the Welsh index of multiple Deprivation and although we have 40% of children eligible for free school meals, we have the same again living in low income homes. We ensure the challenges of our community are mitigated in our school through our support systems, curriculum and care.

In our ESTYN report in 2022 our school was acknowledged for the care and support it provides for its children and staff and the impact it has to mitigate for the impact of poverty on children's aspirations and attainment:

"The headteacher and staff at Rhyl High School ensure that the well-being of staff and pupils is their highest priority." "…removing barriers to learning, including those related to the impact of poverty."

This is a fully child centred school where we adapt and adjust to meet their needs, this is a school that deserves the very best leaders who fight for our children and advocate for their need.

Our current headteacher has taken a school that 15 years ago was in special measures and financial difficulty, to now be one of the most sought after schools in the county. She has led us through some very challenging years to become the school we are today. Our school is now in the strongest financial situation it has been in a long time.

Most of all, in Rhyl High School children come first. They are at the forefront of everything we do and every decision we make. We are a school proud of its achievements, but also defensive of our children's and community needs; we are their advocate, we are their voice. Our wellbeing and ALN provision is second to none. We need a head who is brave, kind, supportive and ambitious. A head that never settles for OK and always strives for excellence and in return they will gain a school and a community that will give them everything.

    What are we looking for?

Our Governing body is looking for a headteacher who will continue the school's journey and keep the school at the forefront of the sector. Many schools have adopted our systems and policies on as best practice and we want that to continue. We are looking for a headteacher who is ready for their next challenge, who is ready to work with all stakeholders including: pupils, staff, parents, the community and of course the governing body. Someone who can lead with innovation and bring everybody along with them on our continuing successful journey., Denbighshire County Council is a Disability Confident Employer and is committed to Equal Opportunities and Welsh Language Standards. We welcome applications made in the Welsh Language. Any applications made in the Welsh Language will not be treated less favourably than any submitted in English. This information is available in Welsh.
