Full Job Description

This is an opportunity to join the Professional Standards Directorate within West Yorkshire Police, based out of Brighouse Police Station, Bradford Road, Brighouse. You will be responsible for leading a team that manages all vetting applications for new and existing staff, including contractors and volunteers. Developing and delivering appropriate vetting strategies to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of vetting services across the force ensuring compliance with the Vetting code of Practice and College of Policing APP. Act as the single lead decision maker in relation to complex and contentious vetting applications, reviews, suspensions and revocations ensuring the Force and the public are protected around critical national infrastructure, operational security and reputational risks.

As well as having access to a wealth of police information, police officers enforce the law, exercising intrusive powers over other citizens. This will often be in relation to people who are vulnerable at that time. It is therefore vital that, as well as considering information security, vetting decision-makers take full account of any factors relating to the safety of the public, particularly those who are vulnerable.

As Head of vetting, you will be part of the PSD Directorate Senior Leadership Team and work with internal and external partners to ensure that we have robust vetting practices in place. You will act as the subject matter expert on all vetting related matters providing advice and guidance internally at all levels up to and including Chief Officer Team. You will also Chair the regional vetting group and represent the force at the strategic National Vetting Working Group and the National Vetting Steering Group, contributing to the development of national vetting strategies and guidance.

You will have a proven record of managing people, working in partnership and experience of policy development and its implementation at strategic level.

You will be motivated, have strong leadership skills, and a high standard of professional behaviour.

This role is a part time job share role working 18.5hrs per week.

West Yorkshire Police is committed to improving the diversity of its workforce to better reflect the diverse communities we serve. We welcome applications from all minority groups and individuals who identify with one or more of the protected characteristics as defined by the Equality Act 2010.
