Full Job Description

The Head of Project Management is a leadership role with responsibility across ISR UK for Project Management Capability in terms of People, Process and Tools. The principle purpose of the role is to provide the over-arching functional leadership to the Project Management team across the ISR Domain within Thales UK. The role is required to ensure that best practice is applied to project management with regard to the use and development of people, processes and tools.

The role, together with the Operations and Sector Leads, is responsible for all projects for execution, project growth and resolving resourcing issues. A key responsibility is driving the deployment and adherence to the Product & Project Efficiency (PPE) rules for all bids and projects.,

  • Provide overarching functional guidance to the ISR UK Project Management team (relating to people, process and tools).

  • Accountable for the ISR UK Project Management Office with the Head of PMO reporting into the role

  • Accountable for the compliance, deployment and reporting on the Product & Project Efficiency for all projects in ISR UK with a key emphasis on developing and maintaining high quality estimates, schedules, risk/opportunity management leading to effective forecasting of financials and on-time-delivery

  • Drive the adherence and usage of the Golden Rules of Multi-Entity Bids and Projects within ISR UK, working closely with the other involved Thales entities.

  • Provide hands-on support to specific Bids, Projects and Operations B&PM requirements when in-depth supervision, experience or advice is required.

  • Being responsible for functional independent assurance reviews (such as Baseline Validation and Independent Risk Reviews) and reporting processes for the ISR UK Project Management function.

    An expert understanding of bid, project and programme management principles

  • An extensive track record of leading successful projects, project controls or bids in a complex business-management context.

  • Proven capability for delivering complex systems development, production and support bids and projects, working across the whole lifecycle.

  • Proven leadership capability as a Bid and Project Manager, able to drive the establishment of a proactive team culture where all team members are encouraged and supported to operate to their full capability.

  • A track record in positive, effective leadership of large multi-disciplinary teams to achieve high performance in a complex matrix organisation/multi-cultural environments

  • A track record of providing support to domains and country-level senior management in relation to effective functional project management.

  • Evidence of the ability to provide coaching and development for project managers and future leaders.

  • Extensive experience of working across stakeholder networks including; knowledge of commercial management, best practice supply chain and finance functions.
