Full Job Description

We are looking for a Head of Connections Strategy & Reform to lead the connections reform on behalf of National Grid's Electricity Distribution business (NGED), to develop and deliver an ambitious future connections strategy and drive our ambition to be a leading, influential voice in the industry on connections reform.

Reporting to the Director of Connections, you'll represent NGED to both internal and external stakeholders. This is a high-profile position, and you'll play a critical role in driving the reform, where you'll be able to make a significant impact across NGED, National Grid and the sector.

As an experienced senior leader in the energy industry, you'll be committed to bringing the customer voice into the heart of NGED, engaging and enabling colleagues, and influencing stakeholders and the Regulator to enable us to be the market leader.

You'll drive success by improving the connections pipeline, increasing the customer experience performance measures, whilst growing our sector leadership, influence and reputation.

To be successful, you'll be passionate about customer excellence, have the ambition to play a key role in the UK's shift to net zero carbon, highly experienced in leading change, and skilled in stakeholder management.

We can offer flexibility on where the role is based (Warwick, The Strand London or in one of our Electricity Distributions Offices - Bristol, Birmingham, Castle Donnington, Cardiff) but some travel to London will be needed.

We offer a hybrid and flexible working approach, a mix of working in the office min. 2 days per week and the rest home working. Our standard working week is 37 hours, though we can also offer some flexibility in terms of hours / times if required.

You'll be responsible for

  • Proactively influencing reform and policy development and customer and stakeholder engagement

  • Developing and implementing a strategic plan for NGED connection reform and future strategy

  • Developing thought leadership on the future of connections and acting as an authoritative and compelling external spokesperson for the business

  • Developing opportunities, driving innovation, and delivering risk management

  • Playing the lead role in the external and internal governance of connections.

    An experienced senior leader with expertise in the energy industry and ambition to play a key role in the UK's shift to net zero carbon

  • Confident in external settings, adept at building deep stakeholder relationships, and able to delve into the detail to understand the details of proposed reform

  • A capable writer, a crisp communicator, and an advocate for change

  • Experienced in stakeholder engagement, influencing and networking skills across different audiences

  • Experienced in leading change, developing and delivering innovative strategies, assessing opportunities and business cases and engaging key players to build a shared new future.

  • Entrepreneurial, an innovative future thinker and clear communicator with, able to gain buy in and alliance for successful delivery.

    National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) is the regional electricity distribution division of National Grid.
