Full Job Description

We are looking for a Head of Functional Excellence, Clinical Development. This role will be accountable for leading strategic global functional excellence activities/initiatives across the Clinical Development (CD) function. The role will collaborate and work closely with Head, Portfolio Strategy and Operations, CD and Clinical Development Heads to achieve functional excellence within CD. The role will foster consistency and harmonization of functional matters across Clinical Development, working closely with CDHs, Capability Head, Global Head of Operational Excellence, Clinical Development, Development learning, P&O partners, and people managers within the CD organization. This role will ensure the CD function can use our global resources and apply standard processes consistently across the CD teams to ensure delivery
of high-quality clinical programs.,

  • Accountable for planning, oversight, and delivery of key functional activities/initiatives across the CD line function.

  • Partner with Clinical Development Heads (CDH) to identify gaps and areas of improvement and propose and implement solutions working in close collaboration with CDHs and CD Functional Heads.

  • Lead a team of CD Functional Heads

  • Be a single point of contact for other Development line functions to drive cross functional initiatives and process improvements, ensuring seamless operational support and clinical trial execution.

  • Create short-, medium- and long-term functional plans to drive efficient and effective delivery of high-quality clinical programs/studies.

  • Collaborate with P&O, Learning, Capabilities and local CD managers to establish a cohesive structured approach to building CD functional capabilities.

  • Accountable for resource planning for CD in alignment with the Global CD Head, CDHs and Head Strategy & Operations. Supports recruitment of medical and scientific talent, making sure job criteria are applied consistently within TA/CD teams

  • Coordinate flexible resource modelling ensuring high priority programs are adequately resourced at all times, simultaneously ensuring all other non-priority programs are appropriately resourced.

  • Coordinate Planning and conduct of the annual CD promotion reviews and lead succession planning discussions with the CD LT and build a robust talent pipeline for long-term success.

  • Support the Global Head Portfolio Strategy and Operations in developing a comprehensive yearly budget plan in line with the overall CD goals.

    Master degree degree in Business Administration or related field a plus Advanced degree in life sciences/healthcare (or clinically relevant degree) is strongly preferred

  • 10+ years relevant industry experience with a fundamental understanding of Clinical Drug Development

  • Outstanding verbal and written communications

  • Change management expertise, with the ability to navigate and inspire change within the organization.

  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Strong evidence of critical thinking, problem solving capabilities.

  • Consistent record in working across a matrix organization and demonstrating expert skills in building partnerships.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish relationships and collaborate effectively with partners at all levels.
