Full Job Description

KEY DUTIES To support the qualified Midwifery Staff in the maintenance of high standards of care to patients. To assist in providing an environment within the Department / Ward which is conducive to patient experience and pleasant for patients and their families To work as part of the Midwifery Team undertaking household support tasks and direct care tasks as delegated by the Midwife in Charge. To accept responsibility for specifically delegated functions within the Department / Ward which the Midwife in Charge feels are appropriate for untrained staff to undertake. To ensure the Health and Safety of patients, relatives and other staff is considered and not prejudiced by the post-holder at any time. To ensure that privacy and dignity of patients is paramount and is not compromised. To ensure that all patient information is confidential and is not disclosed to a third party except with permission of the Midwife in Charge. To present an appearance which gives a positive image of the Trust
and a manner which is appropriate and which inspires confidence. In accordance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008, the post holder will actively participate in the prevention and control of infection within the capacity of their role. The Act requires the post holder to attend infection prevention and control training on induction and at regular updates and to take responsibility for the practical application of the training in the course of their work. Infection prevention and control must be included in any personal development plan and/or appraisal. All employees have a duty and a responsibility to protect and safeguard children and vulnerable adults. You must have an excellent working knowledge of local safeguarding children and vulnerable adult procedures and act in accordance of these at all times. CLINICAL & PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES To report any untoward incidents/occurrences. To ensure that all patient care is delivered with the highest degree of
professionalism. Preparing patients for consultation, i.e. urinalysis, weight, temperature, pulse, saturation, blood pressure readings, height, and chaperoning patients when required. To undertake venepuncture and other procedures applicable to the role (when trained to do so) Assist women with infant feeding (once trained) To provide basic care of the neonate as directed by the midwife ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES To ensure where entries are made in midwifery / nursing documentation, that these are correct, legible and comprehensive and countersigned by a registered midwife / nurse Receiving patients into the clinic and provide patients with information and advice as required. To check and maintain equipment used in dept/ward after appropriate training and to ensure all used equipment is decontaminated and sent to appropriate department as per Hospital policy. Carrying out errands between departments, answering telephones and taking messages including delivering
specimens to laboratories and collecting x-rays etc. FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY Utilise resources and supplies effectively and economically, reporting deficiencies to the Ward / Department Manager RESEARCH & AUDIT To assist in their capacity as a Health Care Assistant in any departmental involvement in research / audit activities as directed by the Department / Ward Manager.
