This role presents an excellent opportunity for an electrical engineer with utility experience to grow into a client focused consultant taking responsibility for a variety of projects, providing a technical guardian function and support to the commercial and project management teams during the pre-contract and delivery stages of a project.

This is an excellent opportunity to join RLB's established Cost Management team as we continue our growth within a broad portfolio of real estate, digital and technical developments across EMEA.
The role will suit someone familiar with electrical utility infrastructure projects including grid connections, electrical infrastructure development and electrical utility installations within the public realm. The role offers an excellent platform to progress, with a very supportive and robust career development structure.,

  • Lead all aspects related to grid connections directly with TO, ESO, DNO and de-regulated/licence exempt networks.

  • Lead grid feasibility/due diligence studies and identification of available connection capacity on the network.

  • Make and manage formal applications with infrastructure owners including, new services, diversions and disconnections.

  • Supporting the engineering development and procurement of large scale demand and export electrical infrastructure.

  • Review, and challenge where appropriate, independent connection provider (ICP) & balance of plant (BoP) design and engineering deliverables. Where appropriate provide a value management and value engineering function in accordance with energy networks association (ENA) standards.

  • Support the project delivery and commercial teams during the basic and detailed design phases, construction, commissioning and adoption up to sectional or practical completion.

  • Work closely with the internal commercial team to support pre and post contract activities.

  • Support and comply with established commercial/procurement/ contractual strategies.

  • Supporting change control from a commercial and technical perspective in accordance with contracts.

  • The candidate will be an integral part of a team that is accountable for the commercial and contractual performance of a project.

  • Support the commercial teams during tendering and procurement. Provide an interface with the original equipment manufacturers (OEM's).

  • Provide market and economic insights for plant and equipment based on raw material availability and OEM capacity.

  • Supporting commercial team contract application reviews and measures for interim payments.

  • Supporting the preparation of tender documents.

  • Working as part of a team supporting the processes of contractor selection, appointment and delivery.

  • Preparation of recommendation reports.

  • Promote technical awareness throughout the commercial process.

  • Advising and liaising with internal project and cost control teams.

    The ideal candidate will demonstrate a positive proactive approach to the role, and will be committed to delivering customer service excellence.

  • High quality education (bachelor's or master's degree) in engineering, preferably electrical engineering or similar.

  • Proven experience in Grid connection process at transmission and distribution levels.

  • Excellent understanding of the overall operation of the transmission and distribution networks in GB including the key stakeholders.

  • Excellent understanding of the commercial and technical aspects of transmission and distribution connection processes.

  • Excellent understanding of grid code and ENA compliance requirements.

  • Understanding of the key assets that make up an electrical demand or export facility.

  • A dynamic approach to grid connections with smart grid, micro grid or colocation strategies.

  • Fundamental commercial skills - comfortable with Capex and Opex calculations.

  • Excellent communication skills, capable of presenting technical results and implications.

  • Strong organisation skills, team player and good attention to detail.

  • Knowledge of the GB transmission and distribution network operational challenges and the ancillary services provided by users

  • Results oriented who is not scared of taking accountability.

  • Able to build long-term relationships

  • Previously employed by a consultancy or end user client

  • A team player, outgoing, flexible, and career focussed
