Full Job Description

This role will be critical to maintaining a strong relationship between the CAA and Government, enabling the CAA to deliver its mission, and supporting our sponsoring Department, the Department for Transport, to deliver their policy aims. The Government Relations Associate will work closely with various part of the CAA to provide Government with information and reporting as part of our new Framework Document arrangement with the DfT. The role will also involve coordination of funding proposals across the CAA to prepare funding package for the Department to consider annually as part of their relationship for the CAA under Section 16 of the Civil Aviation Act. It will also respond to both regular and ad hoc requests for information or advice from Government, playing a coordination role in preparing a timely and accurate response to these. The role will be at the heart of the CAA and DfT relationship and provides an exciting opportunity to get involved in activity across the CAA as well as
Government. Alongside working to support the government relations function, the role will also spend a portion of its time (up to a third) supporting the Head of International Strategy in a matrix fashion to help ensure coordination with government on our international activities.,

  • Coordinating funding requests for the DfT to consider where the CAA carries out work on their behalf, including undertaking assessment of the quality of such requests, and driving improvements where necessary, and supporting ExCo to prioritise the package.

  • Working closely with senior leaders to shape, influence and submit a multi-million-pound funding package that aligns with the CAA's strategy, supports our mission, and supports the DfT to deliver on their policy ambitions.

  • Coordinating performance reporting and strategic and policy input on various elements of the CAA's activity for provision to the DfT to support a transparent and trusted relationship between the CAA and DfT

  • Responding to regular and ad-hoc reporting requests from DfT, Cabinet Office, DBT and other government departments.

  • Supporting Head of International Strategy to coordinate and manage international relationships and activity.

  • Supporting Principal - Strategic Coordination and Head of Strategy on cross-organizational initiatives and programmes as required, We can offer you an exciting role in a fun, talented and motivated team that supports the CAA to protect people and enable aerospace.     Essential to be able to demonstrate clear organisational ability to stay on top of various pieces of work at one time.

  • Essential to be able to demonstrate strong relationship management and engagement skills to liaise with key government stakeholders and represent the views of the CAA accurately and respectfully.

  • Essential to be able to identify, shape and deliver process improvements to continuously improve ways of working across CAA and with Government

  • Experience of drafting clear, concise briefing notes, position papers and performance reporting materials

  • Experience working within or with central government departments desirable.

  • Understanding of public policy development and associated first-principles based policy development, consultation, and engagement desirable.
