Full Job Description

  • Manage critical relationships with stakeholders like engineers, Finance business partners, FinOps champions, Cloud CoE FinOps squad and Google.

  • Keeping up to-date with latest, more performant, and cost-effective services launched by Google, analyse its applicability to BT and promote its usage amongst engineers.

  • Promote FinOps mind-set pan-BT to all the cloud-using engineering teams agnostic of the Cloud provider (i.e., Google, AWS, Azure)

  • Constantly monitor BT-level GCP spend and work with engineers to implement optimisation opportunities and purchase the right rates optimisation products.

  • Build and maintain reports including dashboards suitable for key stakeholders of public cloud.

  • Build plans, budgets, forecasts and variance analysis on public cloud consumption.

  • Link activity into financial processes and cycles for example providing variance analysis to budgets during month-end reporting.

  • Ensure chargeback and showback processes are fully operational.

  • Establish guardrails / policies to detect and remove usage waste.

  • Continuously improve front door and in-life processes, ensuring the right data is captured to drive all aspects of cost transparency, optimisation, and financial accountability.

  • Work with Finance teams to ensure correct accounting is applied according to IFRS and Group Accounting Policy, for example capitalising test / dev activity or booking accruals during financial close.

    Experience with developing scripts using languages like Python, SQL, and Terraform to implement automated cost optimization control & attribution policies.

  • Experience building and managing Cloud Cost analysis & visualizations using tools like Looker, Qlik, MS Excel, Tableau or any other similar tool.

  • Good with data queries, generating actionable, concise, and presentable data visualizations.

  • Proficient in Git, Cloud Shell and Big Query.

  • Understanding of GCP Cloud fundamentals in FinOps to manage Cloud Budget, Forecast, Spend monitoring, purchasing various Commitments, deriving Cloud Cost Optimization across the Organization.

  • Have hands-on experience querying data via SQL.

  • Good with ETL pipeline setup and development.

  • Experience in managing and deployment of GCP services such as Cloud Functions, Cloud SQL, Compute Engine, Vertex AI, Cloud Spanner,GKE, GCS, DataFlow and Composer, pub/sub, BigQuery, VPC and Subnets provisioning both manual provisioning in GCP Console and using Terraform.

  • Certification in FinOps Foundation practitioner is desired.

  • Certification in Google fundamentals or higher would be highly preferred.

  • You would be part of the Cloud Business Office team's FinOps squad which focuses on working with engineering teams and other stakeholders to ensure they are leveraging the full economic potential of Cloud through sound cloud financial management. You would be using both financial and technical acumen to collaborate across multiple business owners to help drive successful IT transformation by explaining the value proposition of Cloud model to all our stakeholders, ensure there is minimal to no wastage and keep optimising our usage to maximise value for BT., BT is part of BT Group, along with EE, Openreach, and Plusnet.
