Full Job Description

  • Act as the primary point of contact for key and relevant business counterparts in global Public Affairs and Government Affairs on legal matters, establishing a connection between legal expertise and business goals and align strategies with business objectives

  • Proactively and reactively provide strategic legal advice tailored to business needs on a wide range of legal problems, tailored to the unique needs of the business

  • Advise on strategies and interactions with policy makers, politicians, other public officials, patient advocacy groups, and the media across various activities including social media, grants, press releases, disease awareness campaigns, and public health policy collaboration.

  • Lead on concept reviews of PA&GA-driven projects and support the development of PA&GA proposals, working in close conjunction with the relevant Therapeutic Area attorneys, country counsel, and other attorneys within Legal as well as the relevant Ethics & Compliance Advisors.

  • Support the Executive Vice President, Corporate Affairs and General Counsel and her team in the Office of the General Counsel with legal review of activities, communications, and strategic materials, as well as acting as a single point of contact and coordinator with the rest of the legal organization for advice on these activities

  • Align the strategies and resources of the Legal department with business objectives, fostering collaboration and support across functions ensuring legal considerations are seamlessly integrated into all aspects of our operations

  • Manage relationships with external counsel, ensuring effective collaboration, cost efficiency, and quality legal services, optimizing the value we receive from these external partners

  • Stay abreast of relevant legal developments and industry trends, identifying and recommending opportunities to enhance department approach

  • Work in partnership with the Office of Ethics and Compliance and other Legal teams to help ensure the organization operates within legal, regulatory, and ethical frameworks, collaborating to minimize legal risks while promoting ethical conduct throughout the organization, Invest time and effort in building strong relationships with business stakeholders. Act as a trusted advisor and cultivate a collaborative enviro. based on mutual respect and understanding. Earn the right to be present and exert influence at business leadership "tables"

  • Actively seek opportunities to engage with business stakeholders, anticipate their needs, and offer support or guidance in a timely manner. Be proactive in understanding their goals and challenges

  • Approach challenges with a problem-solving mindset. Work together with Compliance team and business stakeholders to find solutions that comply with legal and regulatory requirements

  • Cultivate and display the ethics and values for which Gilead strives, and actively engage with stakeholders from a place of trust and partnership. Be firm when needed, even when working with more senior stakeholders

  • Apply a deep understanding of the biopharma industry, Gilead's business objectives, and the specific challenges faced by different departments. This will enable the legal and compliance team to provide tailored and practical advice

  • Respond promptly to inquiries, requests, or concerns raised by business stakeholders

  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency in addressing their needs and provide timely feedback

  • Foster open and transparent communication channels with business stakeholders

  • Clearly communicate requirements, explain the rationale behind decisions, and provide regular updates on relevant changes or developments

  • Continuously evaluate and improve internal processes to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in supporting the business in achieving company goals. Minimize unnecessary bureaucracy and simplify workflows to facilitate smooth interactions

  • Embrace a culture of continuous improvement. Actively seek feedback from business stakeholders and strive to enhance the quality and effectiveness of support provided

  • Mindset of continuous improvement and agility in the context of changing regulatory environments and organizational needs

    12 years of experience with a JD/Juris Doctorate or fully qualified legal credentials in one or more geographies of operations. Fully admitted to practice law in the respective country or jurisdiction.

  • Fully admitted to practice law in the respective country or jurisdiction

  • Extensive professional experience in-house in biotech, pharmaceuticals or other highly regulated industries or law firm advising in all relevant areas of practice for these industries, Ideally the majority of the years of career spent in-house

  • Management experience and ability to mentor and supervise attorneys and staff

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and ideally one or more other languages of the countries in which the company operates
