Full Job Description

You will work 6 hours each Sunday from 10am to 4pm with a half hour unpaid break. Please do NOT APPLY If you cannot legally work these hours or cannot work on Sundays., The Sales Assistant (based in the Shop Dept) is a team member whose duties / tasks include:

Operating with integrity and honesty at all times - upholding the company's values.

This role is physical. You will be on your feet all day and will be required to lift heavy objects from time to time e.g. large trees, compost, pots etc.

Working with the Shop team to ensure the smooth running of the Shop Department (this covers all indoors goods plus compost, outdoor pots and fencing).

You will deliver excellent customer service at all times following the company's customer service policy.

You will deal with customers in person and on the telephone, offering advice and looking for up sale and linked sales opportunities where possible, helping to achieve departmental sales targets.

Keeping product wastage to a minimum, through maintaining excellent plant hygiene and stock rotation for dated items. Recording any stock wastage correctly.

Receiving stock and putting it out for sale. Ensuring products are displayed well at all times and are labelled correctly.

Cleaning of the shop (dusting, sweeping, mopping etc).

Ensuring all work is carried out safely and that H&S guidance is followed. Ensuring H&S signage is displayed correctly (for example when floor is wet).

Our shop assistants are expected to assist in the cafe when necessary e.g. coach parties. If asked to assist you maybe clearing tables, loading the dishwasher and you could receive training so that you can serve hot drinks and use the till.

The ideal candidate will have a friendly character, being able to take direction and work as part of a team. Previous experience within the horticultural trade is not essential, but would be an advantage. Applicants should have a passion and good understanding of a range of garden products and have a willingness to learn new things.

NOTE: The hourly pay rate is based on age and includes an enhanced rate for working on Sundays. If you were asked to work another day you would be paid at the basic pay rate (£6.40-£11.44 an hour)
