Full Job Description

As Lead Vet you will be responsible for leading a dedicated team of vets, ATTS, and lay staff to improve and develop the services we offer to our large loyal following of farmers.

The services you will lead your team to provide for our clients include routine herd fertility visits with lay staff to record data, bull fertility testing, TB testing, herd health planning, 24-hour emergency care, disease outbreak investigation, and herd performance analysis.

You will also be responsible for running the business side of our farm enterprise which includes:

  • Regular meetings to analyse financial performance

  • Purchasing

  • Marketing and advertising

  • Recruiting

  • Team diary organisation


  • All the above are carried out with the support of other departmental CDs and our parent company Linnaeus and Mars.

    Shires Vets Farm is located in the picturesque Staffordshire market town of Eccleshall and has been part of the local community for over 80 years. Starting with just a couple of visionary veterinarians, the practice has grown to over 20 vets with separate Farm, equine, and small animal departments. We operate throughout Staffordshire and parts of Cheshire and Shropshire.

    Highly equipped site with all the usual toys including interherd plus fertility software, TB master, rectal scanners, Bull and Ram fertility testing kit, automatic faecal egg counter, in-house lab for basic bloods and colostrum testing, farm animal offices, pharmacy, and farm animal health shop.

    We are often involved within our local community including sponsoring local events such as the Staffordshire County Show, client and family quiz nights, and the Staffordshire Christmas tractor run.

    Here at Shires, we organise regular meetings and discussion groups that are an invaluable tool for both vets and farmers. It allows us to share new ideas and experiences as well as learn about advances within the industry. Throughout the year Shires Vets schedule a range of in-house talks, on-farm walks, and practical workshops including young farmer's talks.
