Full Job Description

Job Summary: To provide effective local operational and administrative support for
Research and Enterprise activities in the Faculty of Engineering and
Technology.,

  • Work in a team to provide support for Research and Enterprise activity across the

  • Faculty, dealing with a range of queries from internal and external contacts,
    including Post Graduate Researchers (PGR's), senior research staff, and
    Professional Service teams across the University, adhering to LJMU/Faculty
    processes for research and enterprise administration.

  • Deal with research enquiries for new applicants, advising on procedures and

  • ensuring applicants are informed regularly on the progress of their application.

  • Co-ordination and support for the admission of all postgraduate research applicants

  • in the Faculty including the creation of reference requests, provision of offer letters,
    and liaison with the International Office and other Professional Service Teams as
    appropriate.

  • To act as Secretary to Research Committees including Faculty Research

  • Degrees Committee (FRDC) and Faculty Research and Knowledge Exchange
    Committee (FRKEC), including servicing the committees, and preparing and
    processing all relevant documentation.




  • Monitor attendance and engagement, monitor awarded bursaries, liaise with

  • the Doctoral Academy, and ensure strong links with the University Research
    Degree Committee.

  • Maintain information on University Management Information Systems/Platforms

  • such as eDoc, SIS, Sharepoint, to ensure effective service delivery.

  • Organise Faculty research conferences and regular and ad-hoc seminars,

  • including all planning and follow-up work, and liaison with the Director of
    School (or nominee) and other School/LJMU staff as necessary.

  • Give support to research staff, such as arranging travel and accommodation as

  • required, ensuring LJMU Financial Regulations are strictly adhered to.

  • Assist UoA's in the preparation of documentation for REF.


  • Respond to requests for research statistical information for the Faculty.


  • Maintain an efficient and clearly auditable filing and records system for the Faculty

  • for all research related administration.

  • Support in preparing grant applications, providing advice and assistance to staff

  • with this process.

  • To provide general Faculty administrative support as instructed by the Head

  • of Faculty Administration, which may include general administrative support
    on occasion.

  • Any other duties commensurate with the grade as deemed necessary by the Head of

  • Faculty Administration.

    Essential Factors Evidence

    HNC/D in relevant subject or equivalent qualification. A and I

    Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word and A and I
    Excel.

    Able to work independently, under minimum supervision, or as A and I
    part of a team as required, often to strict deadlines.

    Excellent verbal and written communication skills. A and I

    Able to assimilate and present data with accuracy and attention A and I
    to detail.

    Capable of working collaboratively with people across the A and I
    organisation, in a professional manner, providing a customer
    focused administrative service.

    Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workA and I
    effectively.

    Willing to participate in training and professional development A and I
    programmes appropriate to the needs of the post.

    Adaptable and flexible in approach to work. A and I

    Comfortable handling high volume repetitive work. A and I

    Experience of servicing formal committees. A and I

    Relevant administrative experience within the H.E. Sector. A and I
